There have been a few odd looks. He uses the alias Lamont Cranston (aka The Shadow) and performed in a full face mask and Shadow garb for a while. I didn't think it looked all that and I couldn't hear him sing (6.40 on this clip)...... It's not just stage garb or dress-up, he wears this stuff all the time. A genuine eccentric and very private man.
Rule 1. Don't be dull. Rule 2. Don't be dull. Rule 3. Don't be dull. Rule 4. Don't be dull. Rule 5. Don't be dull. Rule 6. Don't be dull. Rule 7. Don't be dull. Rule 8. Don't be dull. Rule 9. Don't be dull. Rule 10. Don't be dull. In the very early days he was very Iggy Pop/Lux Interior on stage, chucking himself about and stripping off. He was a great front man then and remains so now. I can't understand a word he says on stage as he mumbles rather than speaking. When he was living a daily life as a 'Goth' in the mid-70's, he was an incredibly rare sight, which is difficult to imagine now, so popular has the look become. The Captain always takes the piss out of 'The Grimly Fiendishes' in the audiences. I don't laugh, as Mrs B is a Patricia Morrison dress-a-like.
Has anyone gone onto the iTunes store lately and looked at the top selling albums for genres like rock or alternative? It’s a seriously sad state of affairs. It confirms real music by live acts is dead and there’s nothing new coming out of any significance. The best selling albums are from 25-40 years ago. Awful.
I go to a gig a month of bands from the 70's and there's a steady growth of the audience that wouldn't have been born 20 years after the heyday of the bands. They're classic acts and it costs £15-£35 to go and see them. My daughters' favourite acts cost more than double in a bigger venue with worse views. Being young isn't what it was...
I think it's always been that way to be fair. I hated it when bands I liked got too big. Instead of playing the smaller intimate clubs, they'd end up playing Wembley Arena or main stages at festivals which are just dire places to see any live music. I always preferred gigs at smaller venues like the Kentish Town Forum, Camden Underworld or the now demolished Astoria. Hell, even the Brixton Academy was pretty decent. The tent stage at Reading was always great too.
