A jump in the air with arm aloft a la Denis Law is still the best celebration. Or a gentlemanly pat on the back on the way back to the centre circle as in the days of Finney, Matthews, Lofthouse etc.
Didn't realise until coming across it on YouTube that the original recording was by P J Proby. He hated the song, as can be heard in his rather disinterested performance of it, and refused to have it included on the album he was making. Only came to light some time later. Think he could have made a good song of it if he had put his heart into it.
Agree. And many, many others. Let's be honest about it. It can be spine tingling have a full stand (or even 3 in some cases) singing a decent club anthem ... damn it, some have more than one, even several. I wish we had.
YNWA= It's become something of a self-parody as it's a bucket list item for scandy and irish 'fans' to sing it at the close of a game and then brag about it to fellow plastics. BITD (may I use that acronym?), every club used to sing it after they scored. Realistically, it should have been sung after they'd conceded for it to have the requisite gravitas.
We have It’s just some people aren’t comfortable enough with their sexuality to be as camp as it needs.
To me singing YNWA after going a goal down used to smack of defeatism and accepting the game was lost.
Exactly. Wonderful. Just imagine if we had something like that to sing when we'd been at Wembley x3? Instead we endure some version of wise men and friggin status quo etc. Embarrassing. 114 years and **** all. ... although 'mauled' in 2008 from 40k 'tigers', complete with full hand gestures, to a world wide audience would have been pretty cool
Three questions to debate from yesterday. Is Clucas with £6m Stoke paid for him. Is Tince as good as his dad says he is. Where was Tymon. Not even warming the bench.
Despite Josh Allen been a dirty git, he’s one heck of a footballer at this level, why you need Ryan Woods (who I rate) and Clucas as well is mind boggling. Also I’m glad we didn’t go near that Batth he looked awful, and they had Shawcross on the bench. Stoke look totally lost in direction.
