Good song but spoilt by the hand actions. The irony it originally demonstrated is lost on other fans and leaves us open to ridicule.
The 6th biggest selling single of 1968? They don't come much bigger than that. What is the link between the song or the lyrics or Tom Jones, and Stoke City? Answer : none whatsoever. It's meaningless.
Talking about Tom Jones, reminds me of the old joke; (obviously for the more mature members!) Doctor, Doctor, I can't stop singing "The Green Green Grass of Home" That's what we Doctors call the "Tom Jones Syndrome" Oh really? Is it common? No it's not unusual. Bum bum. I'll get m'coat.
Given the amount of singles sold in 1968 it was hardly a minor song. What is the connection our song and Hull? Oh, we haven't got one...
I know someone who played in a group supporting Tom Jones at Brid Spa. Jones microphone wasn't working so he borrowed theirs. Doing some flashy James Brown type bouncing it off the floor he broke it. Afterwards their lead singer asked him if he was going to pay to replace it as to them it was a lot of money. Jones replied he could **** off, all those people out there paid to hear me not you.
Someone told Wembley to play it. Best song we had was to the tune of Batchelor Boy, changing the words to Tigers fan. One of those were you could sing the whole song or just keep repeating the chorus. Though we nicked it off Derby. The South Stand bawling that out as we beat Southend at the end of our 1966 promotion season is an abiding memory. Would have to leave out son nowadays to avoid charges of misogyny etc.
In these days of poncey, ****ed up, vain, rehearsed, self-glorifying goal 'celebrations' and celebrators, it is indeed refreshing to see the spontaneous joy and unrehearsed happiness of Jarrod Bowen when he scores.
Very true. The fact, as sad as it is, we still haven't actually got one! 114 years and counting. I wish I was a song writer. Are we unique for that (and the letter colouring thing)?
I don't see the attraction in having one song , how boring is it to sing the same thing every game , especially if it's some **** like that Delilah which isn't even any good when sung by a decent singer never mind a load of football fans
