Absolutely mad to single out JWP for criticism, who has been our best player for 3/4 weeks. Our biggest problem is attacking threat now. If Redmond gets injured we are as good as down, as long and Austin are just not PL level.
Long is so fast. Why does he not just kick the ball down the line and run after it? The mind boggles. I do think he was fouled a few times while trying to hold it up though.
Yeah that's it mate. Anyone who doesn't think this has been a great afternoon of football is a WUM. I mean, there's so much to be grateful for. 2 points dropped, selling players in the window without replacing them, a striker made of ****ing glass. Still, we're one place above the relegation zone (which could be by just 2 points in a couple of hours) So we should be happy right?. I'll toddle off and go get my Gao tattoo sorted straight away.
My final comment on this game. If Nathan Redmond finally starts to deliver some end product, he could be quite a player. Vin
Perspective here: Burnley didn't look a threat for 75 mins. They were statistically favourites to win today Man U scraped a draw against them Burnley are unbeaten in five games before today
Ralph says a draw was fair result as we had some luck. Good enough for me. How refreshingly honest. I won’t read the thread now. I will just to see who lost it and who got blamed
Courtesy of the BBC: "Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl: "It feels a bit different this one. The 1-1 with Crystal Palace on Wednesday felt a success but this feels like losing. But I think it was a fair result. We had a few situations where we were lucky. "We are unbeaten in five games which is important for me. We had a big chance but it's important to keep winning points consistently and that's what we are doing. It's important steps. This point will help us in the end very much so I see the positives. "We showed again we are hard to beat, also in the away games, and that is important to me. "I call Nathan Redmond a difference maker. He is a guy who can win games for us. Fantastic performances at the moment and I hope it goes on. "It's important at this stage we feel hard to beat and the mentality in the team is important at the moment. We are in a good position but it's not done.""
I'm not criticizing JWP at all. I think he us playing a position he us not well suited for and where he does not have much experience. I thought he was overall decent which is a testament to his work ethic. Intelligence, and general all-around skill. Being versatile enough to play there is a credit go him. I don't have a problem with him continuing to start there as he did okay a d may be the best we have. At the same time, he has some major flaws at that position which prevent him from ever excelling there and unfortunately are beyond his control. He scored a huge goal against CP, but he was in at the back post which us not where wingback is traditionally wind up. Unless we're trying to go all Football Manager with new-fangled inverted wingbacks which IMO is a bad move as we do not have the defense to play that way. Do you honestly want to see JWP at wingback next season?
He seems to get injured more times than he scores. I don't doubt he's our best finisher but does anybody else think we shouldn't sign him permanently for that reason?
