    Nice one Forza

On the subject of owners I'm older than many of you and can remember twats like Manny Cussins who would rather spend an afternoon on the golf course at Alwoodly or Sandmoore than give Revie £3 to give a £1per week per rise to 3 players. Leslie Silver followed by Bill Fotherby. Spending was always under control and the players were treated as kings but paid peanuts compared to today. We were never a big spending club until Ridsdale and it's taken us since 2003 to recover from that. I think many fans think that an owner means business if he throws all his money at it. It doesn't work like that as there are too many bankrupt former club owners. No the only way to compete is to have a multi billionaire owner, and as we don't have that we need to live within our means. Trust me if we had the owners from Alwoodly we would be nowhere. In fact I suspect that Cussins would have been worse than Bates. Most of the club owners were like that, Deadly Doug at Villa etc a case in point.

We're top of the league with the best manager since Revie and we have the best owner I can remember. Until the owner screws up with something obvious that he's done wrong I refuse to start kicking off about lack of money. I have no money but if I had enough I would buy a better car or something else but because I have a few quid more that doesn't make me a better person. Has Radz ever lied to you?

First time I've heard anything negative about Manny Cussins.

My recollection is reading that he was an honorable gent who was good for Leeds United.

    Very different time, of course.

That’s not setting the bar very high Davy. You could go into the boardroom, drop a steaming turd on the table, call it chairman and make the very same statement about it.

He’s an owner, this is a forum. We’re allowed to debate his contribution. He’s done some good and made some c*ck ups. We’re all delighted he bought the ground back... though personally i’d rather have seen that invested in the team first, he’s not a football guy so he’s needed to get a management team around him he can trust... he put a lot of faith in Orta and they didn’t get it right last year, this year we’re top of the league so credit to both. I’ve never warmed to him personally, the sucking up to the fans bit has largely seemed like its all out of page 1 of the PR handbook, but he’s taken a backseat role this year and all the better for it.

I accept its prudent to run a club to a budget, i have no beef with that, but in my view a sensible budget for a football club includes a January contingency. If you have to turn your season around, for relegation or promotion options, if you’ve had terrible injuries or key players **** off back to Spain, you need to be able to respond. We haven’t really done that in my view... and given where we are in the table, we should have been doing what we could to secure that position. Doesn’t make him a terrible owner, a bad person, or anything of the sort... i’m just concerned at us risking a golden chance through lack of investment.

Evidently not, going by their behaviour. Even dancing to their tune (if that's what we did) didn't work. For us.

I think Doc hit the nail on the head by alluding to them needing to offload wages for FFP purposes. Sales were not the aim as the asset values on the balance sheet would almost certainly be set higher than anything they could recoup. Yes, they're in trouble, FFP-wise, but it looks like they did all the business they needed to cover their arses. Or all the business they could.
