Doc, it doesn’t really matter who changed or pushed for what in the deal. We don’t know the suggested payment terms of the quoted 5mill fee... and we even tried to pay the loan deal in arrears! Look I’m all for haggling for a good deal, but you run the risk of it simply not being that attractive. If James was crucial to us and we had the cash why would we push our luck on payment terms? Why did we have to wait for Casilla to come in before we went for James? Why do Roofe and Klich still not have contract extensions? 11 sports hitting headlines for financial trouble. It’s easy to say we were going to pay that, we wanted to buy this... but ultimately we haven’t. It looks like we were ready to reinvest some saved wages... but had no budget to go out and pay decent money for replacements. That’s what all the, admittedly, circumstantial evidence says... to me anyway!
U23s tomoz and we're 6 points clear at the top of the league so far. I wonder if Dan James was pencilled in formthis along with Brown and hopefully Bamford. Will our new Pole take part? Still exiting times for all our teams as we sit atop all the league tables. It's Birmingham and love damaging Monks squad
To answer some earlier questions, this is my take on the James transfer. If I was after a top target, I would do everything I could to bring the target in at the earliest possibility. I would not wait until the 25th to make an initial offer! Leeds (I honestly believe) wanted to wait until the last minute to almost tease the fans - Will it go through - will it not? Even if we had signed James Thursday morning, half our fans would still be expectant that a further signing would happen before the transfer window slammed shut, and the hierarchy (imo) wanted to build on the anticipation and announce the transfer say 10pm last night. By waiting to the last minute, it gives them extra bragging rights
I for one would have been quite satisfied with James. So instead of pissing off 50% of the fans they have managed to piss off 100% of the fans, really back fired. If of course your beliefs are correct.
This is the reality of what happened, It simply fell through because our chairman knew that while the sale of James had been approved by our Yankee slime balls, it would have brought about a revolt amongst the Jack army, so he failed to rubber stamp it, so as it is, season ticket sales look very vulnerable for next season, as does the chances of Potter staying at Swansea.
Its just a theory. I do think Radrizzani likes a bit of spin, and I can no benefit of waiting to the last minute to get the deal over the line, especially when it became clear that James wanted to come to Leeds.
Agreed! You didn't help yourselves with wanting credit terms for a miserly sum of £1.5 Million, had the terms been more favourable to us,I think it would have gone through regardless of a fans revolt, money talks..............
Garry Monk as a player was decent enough, not outstanding by any means, but as a manager he was well below par as the Jack army were concerned, he failed to maintain the attractive possession based football that Martinez, Rogers, Sousa, and Laudrup developed over the years. I would go so far as to say his game is anti-football, and was not missed after his sacking from the Liberty. As for his personal character, there was a rather arrogant side to him which didn't go unnoticed, he tried to trash Sousa in a book he published, he tried to undermine Laudrup, and he was known as the Chairman's snitch in the dressing room, I could go on about some of his antics, bur Chico had the write approach with Monk, when he attempted to throw a brick at him, in a training ground bust up!.......................... Perhaps, and even justifiable, tbh. BUT ... to disrespect not one, but two clubs by refusing to answer the phone for 5 hours is bang out of order, and actually is in direct conflict with the Championship Charter signed in the summer. All he had to do & say 'I'm terribly sorry, but the deal is off. There's nothing I can do about it. We have internal issues that prevent further sales'. Something along those lines, whilst upsetting, would be truthful, understandable, and even acceptable. But to disrespect 2 clubs in exactly the same manner & prevent them completing any other deals they may have lined up up as a fallback is not only disrespectful, it's downright cheating! Now I wonder if Swansea, already on the moral high ground as a signatory for Leeds 'spying' being interpreted as cheating, will do the right thing & write again to the EFL to tell them that their own actions should be investigated? I think not. Which will not only expose them as cheats, but hypocrites to bargain!
Well the club say that even with the parachute payments there is a €68M (£60m) fall in revenue this year.
please log in to view this image David Anderson@MirrorAnderson Leeds will also monitor James and may return for him in June. But if they win promotion, they may set their sights higher. Good luck to Swansea trying to get anything out of James in the rest of the season after leaving him high and dry...
Huw Jenkins would't care a monkey's uncle about protocol, or the Championship Charter!!............................
Ell, it's been widely reported that Swansea have been the ones dragging their feet throughout. We even had a purchase deal agreed, until they changed their minds at the 11th hour to make it a loan/buy deal. Even that was sufficiently agreed upon for them to send the player up for a medical. I can't see how you can accuse Radz of grandstanding when he was on the back foot throughout. Swansea called the shots, Radz ran after them like a little puppy, and still they screwed us over in the most un-businesslike manner you could think. Even Bates & Cellino had more honour than this mob. Honesty was all that was required. They said nothing for the last 5 hours of the window, and that is tantamount to cheating in anyone's books. Perhaps they should have read the Charter that they referenced in their letter of complaint to the EFL. Or perhaps 'respect' doesn't translate well into Welsh?
And yet it was used as the basis of the letter of complaint that Swansea & 10 other teams signed! So think on, & tell me which is correct - does he or does he not give a monkey's uncle? If he doesn't, why did he sign the Leeds complaint letter?
I was doing a job for the National Autistic Society, where Leon Britton and Garry Monk were there to speak. Leon got up and gave his speech and has photo's with everyone who wanted one whereas Monk sat in his car on the phone the whole time. That left many with a bitter taste in their mouth that day. I'm no fan of Monk as a manager either - he took us away from attractive attacking football. I was happy when he was sacked. In his plus column was his toe-poked intervention against Reading at Wembley in the Play-Off final, without that touch Reading would have equalised and probably gone on to win that final. Decent enough player Not a good manager, Not an admirable person.
