True enough. Old man Allam will probably insist on a photo shoot to celebrate the arrival of the new signing.
Mark Pugh & Liam Ridgewell are positive editions and we haven't lost anyone vital. It's a well known fact that good strikers rarely move in January
If you’d have added Ben Woodburn to replace Will Keane - I would have said we’d had an ok window. As it is...it’s a bit meh!
If you don't mind an old codger giving his few pennies worth, here's my perspective on where we are now the Window has closed. Most importantly, after our recent excellent run, we are 16 points above the relegation places and still within striking distance of a playoff spot. We have retained our two key attacking players, and added a good and experienced backup in Pugh, while Campbell is back in good form, scoring goals, and recovered from injury. All our experienced mid-field players are fit and playing well, with Irvine back in training with us, and Evandro hopefully injury free. Our lack of fit centre halves is a big concern but DeWijs is about ready to return and Lichaj is a strong defender, with the experienced Ridgewell now available, while Kingsley and Kane are capable FBs. The disappointment over the lack of new signings given our thin squad is perfectly understandable. But we have virtually all the players who performed so well in December still available. Lets hope Blackburn was a one-off and we can regain momentum against Stoke this weekend. And if we finish in mid-table this year lets hope the awful Allams will take their money and go, and allow Hull City to move out from under the cloud they have created. I'm looking forward to Saturday. Lets cheer the lads on!!!
Woke up as usual underwhelmed with the business, which has been the same feeling for a while now, though not to lose Turbo and Jarrod is a huge bonus. I suspect Nigel will put a positive spin on the situation, but secretly frustrated. Frankly, I'm no fan of Lee Darnborough but he must be frustrated as hell speaking to an endless amount of agent and the like, with Ehab not supporting him. It really does question Ehab's strategy, apparently building a recruitment department, and then not recruiting that many. The cost of these people in Darnborough's department must be large, and surely doesn't justify its existence.
Just remember, Darnborough being employed was his mate Enob giving him a job, they were at Uni together or something like that.
Another way of looking at it ... Patched enough to keep us safe in the top half, see some nice wins, but the lack of depth and extra 'umph' not enough to push us on at the end of the race. Attractive enough a club potentially to buy if we extend a few contract, not enough money coming in for the loathsome two to stay... It's the hope that gets you ...
Ah right, that explains it. As we're now in February, hopefully we see more movement, and goals, from Martin this month then, starting Saturday.
That story turned out to be rubbish, they weren't at Uni together, I'm not sure they even knew each other ahead of him getting the job.
Reasoned post Canada and hard to disagree with your perspective other than that our owners indicated they might be interested in a push at promotion. The squad is thin and in my opinion we won't get anywhere near, simply because over a 46 game season it is hard for every individual to maintain form and that is what is needed. Time will tell but most seem happy with avoiding relegation. Perhaps the owners are just very good at managing expectation. Start the season with very little and then a decent run of form mid season helps lift supporters morale. Adkins has done a good job with what he has to work with. The Allams will not leave without making money and their asking price appears to be too high for any serious potential purchasers. I've told my pal I am going tomorrow so had better get on and purchase a ticket. I'm not hopeful of any result other than a loss. That might be me being too negative ....
