Sorry if I’m being a bit thick, but I don’t understand where you’re coming from. Are you saying that there’s no players (in the same situation as VDV was back then) that are currently struggling at huge clubs across Europe, wouldn’t improve our squad?
I would like a Van der Vaart any day, his sublime skills would still sit well with us I think PS He could also score a goal out of nowhere. I do agree it's much much harder to strengthen this team than the 2008 version
He would certainly improve our squad, which is just as important. You seem to be of the idea that football is only about 11 players. EDIT: And to add, if we signed the van der Vaart of 10 years ago, he'd make this XI, with Eriksen or Alli dropping into CM.
Vidal at Barca. Ceballos at Real. Rabiot at PSG. All three players who are struggling to make the XI of those clubs yet would instantly improve ours. The notion that Spurs are too good for certain players just because they're not in the XI at Europe's elite is baffling in my eyes.
Now it's being reported that Schalke are keen on loaning in Janssen Given they're six points off Europa League qualification, let alone twelve points off the Champions League spots, are they sure that's wise?
We can be a graveyard for strikers Redrov. Postiga, to name two who have done much better when NOT playing for us. Pavlyuchenko is another.
Pav has failed to score double figures in any of the seven seasons since he left us (and that includes a team in the Russian third tier) yet managed it in each of the three he played for us
Experimenting with plastication is one thing, but I'd fear ever restoring your mental sanity if you went remotely Mouser for even one week.
He was the league's top scorer in the two seasons before we signed him and scored 20+ in all competitions in both seasons, although in the three seasons at Spartak before that his scoring numbers were roughly similar to what they were at Spurs
