Thats a fallacy if i ever saw one.

Firstly you dont need to improve better than barca, you just need to be better than the pl teams

Secondly big clubs make mistakes, its precisely the place you can pick up big talent on the cheap cause they have been misused/misjudged.

Dortmund have done it with alcacer and sancho this season alone. Chelsea let go salah and kdb. Pool picked up coutinho on the cheap.

Someone probably could have got martial cheap (if they werent uniteds rival). You picked up moura a psg reject.

And if anyone picks up that reject isco i bet there is no one who would suggest thats a bad signing

That Messi lad looks alright, wouldn’t be against taking a punt on him. Question is though, could he do it on a cold Monday night in Burnley?

Janssen now supposedly in talks with Cardiff as “doubts have arisen” from his move to Real Betis.

You are right that people make mistakes and some players blossom late but the principle is correct. Selling clubs know a lot more about players than buying clubs. If we want to be better than our PL rivals then we need to be as good as Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. That means signing players who would be regular starters for them.

Spurs are in talks with Lazio midfielder, Sergei Milinkovic-Savic, the the Serbian is due to fly to London to discuss personal terms and have a medical before completing a sensational deadline day deal.

One source close to the player has said “Sergei has wanted to play in the Premier League and Champions League and feels Tottenham is the perfect club for him right now”.

Another source said “Wake up, DH, you silly ****”.

Reports saying we’ll make a move for Bowen if Janssen does indeed **** off. <— those exact words were used <whistle>

I think there's some limit on loans? If so, I think Cardiff are at their limit. They'll have to buy him. Would be quite a leap of faith I think.

Signing players who at least were getting regular starts before
    being deemed surplus to requirements.

However it is okay for Barca to sign Spurs rejects!?

You could say alot of players who are sold are rejects.
Is Tielemans not a reject right now because his manager doesn't fancy him? But who doesn't want him? (apart from Poch )

Which Spurs' rejects have been a success at Barcelona? I agree that mistakes are made but the odds are loaded against signings like this even more than usual.

I’d take another reject like van der Vaart any day of the week.

Big clubs sell players with buy back clauses...why's that if they are no good?

Paulinho was successful, considering he actually got on the pitch more than once...

That is "eat your cake and have it" syndrome.
IMHO it should not be allowed (sell-on clauses I have no issue with) .

One thing that definitely needs to be done about buy-back clauses is for there to be an option for the buying club to pay a fee that removes said clause, especially in cases where clubs stockpile players

He was good enough to improve our team then. He wouldn't be now. That is the essence of the problem we face.

Because it reduces the cost of mistakes. But they rarely use them in practice.

A couple of clubs I can think of are more than happy to do so...

Barcelona: Luis Garcia (2003), Denis Suarez (2016), Gerard Deulofeu (2017)
Los Ladrones do Madrid: Alvaro Negredo (2009), Esteban Granero (2009), Dani Carvajal (2013), Alvaro Morata (2016), Mariano Diaz Mejia (2018)
