Stayed up to watch the whole game (suffering for it today at work). CP were very well drilled, defended in numbers and worked the ball quickly out of defence. Started to sit deeper as the second half progressed and l think that helped us get back into the game. JWP was excellent, not just because of the goal. His all round game was top-draw.
He did well, when he had the chance to do something. Not guilty of gifting the ball to the opposition or wasting opportunities. I like James, you can rely on him.
Doom and Gloom ? Some people are not that confident that we will definitely stay up . How on earth is that really doom and gloom ?
If we get a handball at Watford, it will be scored by JWP with an evil sneer. Had a personality transplant
It is rather strange how people are taking offence to people being negative/pessimistic. Live and let live......or just disagree, but welcome everyone's opinion.
I've always said that JWP will score goals when he has a decent run in the team and he becomes more composed with his finishing. He is a highly intelligent player who always knows when to arrive into the box at the right time. Loved his winding up of Zaha also, another example of his smartness.
I do agree with this, but how much tolerance someone has for negativity might depend to some extent on where you sit in the stadium. Vin has said many times that he is surrounded by constant, voluble moaners, who can ruin anyone’s enjoyment of the match; I’ve had that experience myself several times, to the point of having stand up rows with “fans” who spend 90 minutes shouting abuse at their own players. Didn’t Ralph allude to something similar recently? By all means moan on a forum, but experience suggests that tends to carry over into the ground, and that is why some of us feel strongly about the often constant stream of negativity some fans exude.
Saints were an utter s**t show for 60 mins in my opinion, BUT they hung in there and could have won it too. You will get fans that strop at every goal conceded and you'll have the ones that will never leave a sinking ship. Spilling it out at the ground just pisses bthe majority off.
good point tho really bearig in mind it was freezing cold and we were 1 nil down palace are a good side
Palace fans losing it because JWP punched the air for Zaha's red card. We all must have celebrated a bit of karma in the past? Zaha is a spoilt **** who seems to believe is own hype a tad too much. JWP has stepped up massively and he was due !
No, read it again! What I said was that I don't think we will win. I didn't say that we will loose. .....energy and belief were there. What a load of sanctimonious crap
It still bamboozles me how out of touch Hughes was with the squad & individual players. To see the improvements (or getting back to their best?) in Oriol, JWP, Beds to name a few is quite staggering. And by all accounts what we experienced was very similar at Stoke. Makes you wonder if his managerial stock has reached an all time low. Probably not knowing PL.
I’d be very surprised if he got another PL job at this point in his career. If he can win promotion with a Championship side, maybe he’ll get his chance that way. I don’t think Hughes is a terrible coach; I think Ralph is a great coach, and in comparison the last two, possibly three, of his predecessors look bad. I’ve said this before but it bears repeating; the leadership qualities, particularly the ability to inspire and get the best from his team, that Ralph exhibits ought to be the essence of effective management in any walk of life, not just football. But they are exceptionally rare; most organisations, most teams, indeed most countries, are not particularly well led. Most managers are just administrators (or coaches) with extra responsibility; very few are inspirational leaders.
Good leaders take responsibility, and the overwhelming thing I'll remember about Hughes is the excuses. I saw what he was trying to set up with that stupid Swansea hotel thing.
My problem is not with people in general being pessimistic. If everyone was as optimistic as I am (about pretty much everything) it's be damned irritating. It does indeed take all sorts. No, my objection is to someone who came on at half time last night, implied (on the basis of 45 minutes of football) that we were all idiots for thinking we'd do OK this season then knobbed off and didn't say a word afterwards when we picked up and played half decently. Surely if 45 minutes of poor play means we're relegation fodder, then 45 minutes where we played better must mean we're going to win the league? One's accepting a variety of views, the other's pointing out knobby behaviour. Vin
I never judge ex Managers and players on their personality* but only how they served our club. Puel achieved quite a bit despite some handicaps, Pellegrino took us from the top ten to relegation fodder employing a uninspiring, rigid style of no risk football whilst having less handicaps than Puel and Hughes helped us to stay up albeit with a bit of help from Swansea and the football was definately better than Pellegrino's but the overall results were not good enough. Pellegrino may well turn out to be a better Manager than Hughes with more experience and I don't blame him for his appointment here which was an ill advised and unnecessary gamble, a very poor decision from the Board IMO. *Except Lovren and VVD, they are total ****s.
I didn't see who decked Hojpoj only noticed him changing his shirt before half time and wearing a headband when he came back out. Ralph H was a bit concerned about it today, did it have any affect during the game, as it was a bit strange when they subbed him, presumably he was feeling groggy?
