Interestingly mingolet is floating it out there he's happier to accept being number 2 to alisson all of a sudden.

Me thinks he's finally cottoned onto the fact he'll not make the same cash elsewhere.

I've already said that that's just semantics. Anyway, why not move the conversation on rather than just chew on a choice of phrase?
Injury-prone, fragile, just plain unlucky or any other combination of syllables you care to assemble doesn't alter the fact that we can't rely on him to be fit, going by his record so far.
It's not a personal attack on the guy, it's just a statement of fact. He's played roughly a third of the games we've had since he joined and that's not reliable - for whatever reason. If he gets over that and becomes consistently available in the future then that's great, because he's by far the best of the currently available partners for Virgil.
If he doesn't, we need back-up. Some think that Lovren and Matip are adequate back-up, others don't - and that's a tangential argument.

+1. Exactly how I feel about this. I think Gomez is a great addition to our squad. And, unlike some others to have worn red (Sturidge, Kewell) I don't doubt his commitment or think any of it is "in his head".

With that said, he has missed an awful lot of time and we would be remiss not to be prepared in case he continues to miss a lot of time.

SIGHHHHHH.... so past unrelated issues are an indication of future issues?

    cmon.

    1. Cruciate ligament
    2. Ankle
    3. broken leg

all completely and utterly unrelated and down to impact injuries.

But you say we can't rely on him to be fit.

Can;t you see that there's a world of difference between gomez and others like sturridge or lallana who are actually unreliable. (long history of similar related muscle injure that add up to a pattern)

As for the third of time... i'm sorry but he's a id who wasn't playing all games when fit either. Thats an "unreliable" stat.

If you wish to call him "not reliable" thats on you.

If you want to discuss the need for a squad with 4 senior Cbs as issues happen to all every year, be it injuries, suspensions etc etc then fine.

But to call a player like that unreliable... its an insult to him. you can say its not but it really is.

theres NOTHING to get over! they are simply unrelated incidents of bad challenges, can happen to anyone.. and DID happen to VVD for southampton.

Liverpool in line to profit from Tiago Ilori's transfer from Reading to Sporting Lisbon

Liverpool are in line to profit should Tiago Ilori complete an expected move from Reading to Sporting Lisbon this week.

According to reports, the 25-year-old is currently in the Portuguese capital putting the finishing touches on a return to the club whose academy he initially emerged from.

And the Reds could be in line to benefit thanks to a sell-on clause inserted in the deal that saw Ilori depart Anfield for the Madejski Stadium in January 2017.

Liverpool will receive 25 per cent of any profit Reading make on the £3.75m they paid to secure the defender’s signature two years ago.
Ilori was billed as a potential future star when he joined the Reds from Sporting’s youth setup in September 2013.

Born in London to a Nigerian father and Portuguese mother, it was reported that the Football Association were attempting to convince the centre-back to switch his national allegiance to England around the time of his move to Merseyside.

However, he failed to earn senior recognition for either Portugal - who he had featured for at youth level - or his country of birth during a disappointing spell at Anfield.

Ilori made just three appearances for Liverpool’s first team between loan stints at Granada, Bordeaux and Aston Villa.

He has clocked up 64 outings for Reading since his 2017 move, but now appears set for a return to Portugal.

Should the transfer fee exceed that paid to Liverpool by the Royals, then a quarter of the profits will be sent back to Anfield.

Only 25? He was already burnt out and past it when he last played for us, in an FA cup game 2 (3?) years ago. Did not realise he was so young when he signed for us

    Past it?

I always thought he never put the work in personally to hit the physicality and speed of thought needed for any higest level.

In may ways another Pacheco. did well at underage but never kicked on.

I remember the game you are talking about. Klopp gave him a chance and he was absolutely terrible.

Paris St-Germain's France midfielder Adrien Rabiot has rejected Tottenham because the 23-year-old wants to join Liverpool.

I know he has been touted as wanting to come to us, but is he any good and do we need someone who plays his position

It is a good thing if a player wants to play for your club.

Strange this. You don't come out with this type of thing unless you're pretty sure that the club in question also wants you. We've been linked for some time......Milner is leaving on a free, Rabiot in on a free?

couple of weeks ago they was saying Rabiot to barca was a done deal.

not heard anything, only thing i have heard is the turkish player is a load of bollocks.

for those saying we aren't signing anyone, well i sort of get that feeling to, but fabinho was signed out the blue and on the qt.

Yeah Rabiot to Barca was done I thought.

Personally don't know much about him, as he plays in a terrible league for a decent team. Verratti is the quality in that midfield
