Tbh you need to be patient. Everyone makes mistakes and i often think there can't always be a upward trajectory. Thinks need to be rebuilt and people are discarded too easily (fergie was given time to rebuild). However it is high pressure stakes right now because you guys are right on the line of unravelling should poch leave or you don't qualify for the CL
For sure, the buck stops with the chairman at the end of the day. I fully understand some of the frustrations fans have with him and I have had them at times too but I just feel like he deserves to have the faith (at least for now) of the fans in that he can/ will deliver the ideal future for the club. Big few days coming up and then a huge summer. I think by the end of the summer window I'll have clearer idea of where exactly I think the club's going.
I don't think impatience comes into my POV. Where we are at now requires some form of action for our team...it's as simple as that. Wether it happens or not is the sticking point. If it happens whilst having lost players....one here...one there...then it's another re build. There has to come a day when the house is finished.
Even if this team gets disbanded and the house isn't fully built i think you give him the opportunity to build another house. However that might take you into the wenger territory (he left arsenal in a much better place than when he took over but in a terrible place compared to recent years). I believe you should be loyal to someone who has been highly competent
He didn't quite say that though did he? He is trying his best to win them but it's not a disaster if we don't.
Funny you should say that. I'd been thinking that was pretty much my position as a committed Remainer (actually a Remainer-Reformer).
I am loyal...I'm into my 35th year of supporting the badge. Like I've said a few posts up...Levy deserves first shot at taking us to the next level...that doesn't mean he deserves chance after chance after chance...because he has a philosophy and if it doesn't work once the money is rolling in...then it never will. I think our club deserves the chance to go to the next level more than Levy deserves the chance to try and try and try and try again.
Is it all down to Levy though? It's easy to blame the chairman/owner , but he doesn't kick the ball; ref the game;coach the players; select the team. I know he does the negotiating in purchases but has the star player, the one to really take us to the next level, been available? We've been through this on numerous occasions. But this , I guess is a slightly different question. i.e. who is to blame?
To be fair to DL, he wants to bring in a Director of Football and divest himself of a lot of the football side. Mauricio Pochettino doesn't want that, as he wants to work for DL, not someone who gets in the way of the boss. There's a lot to be done to bring in an NFL franchise, especially one that we have some ownership of, as well as deal with the construction of the hotel, housing, sports arena, possible European Super League, expand our business overseas, etc. We're outgrowing what our current structure will support on numerous levels and that's got to be apparent to Joe Lewis. If we're going to be a dual sport business, it's time to expand our management.
The financial management of the club has been great. But the club is more than a business. I still question why the manager would be so dismissive of the chance to progress and win a trophy like The F.A.Cup - a trophy which has featured so prominently in the club's history. And I don't see that aiming to win a trophy and a top 4 finish are mutually exclusive.
What is that people want ?? A THFC without Levy as chairman ?? A THFC without ENIC as owners ?? My frustration is what I BELIEVE (not proven) that Uncle Joe has been a far bigger problem on the financials than Levy. If this is so, then I am both angry and disappointed with the man (given there was a pre FFP landscape of applying finances around 2011 when the Goons were there for the taking) .
I feel like it's an even more focused issue than this and he's just dropped the ball this season, as the stadium's distracted him. If people will forgive the political comparison, it's like Brexit has been for Britain: an overwhelming and disruptive mess. Now don't get me wrong, I'm happy with what I've seen of the new place and I'm pretty sure that Levy will make a success of it. He seems to have let it dominate his thoughts for this campaign though, resulting in no transfer business and a weakened squad. We've weathered most of that by having continuity and quality, while a lot of other clubs were too active and completely overhauled everything. It's left us with too much deadwood and hoisted too much responsibility on tired shoulders, though. I was tempted to write a thread of it's own on the points you've raised here, but you've beaten me to it. The fans are feeling Wembley fatigue, the lack of a home and there's been no boost from fresh signings. Our home form has suffered and you can feel it at the games.
As time goes by, the business side is more and more important to clubs. It’s sad and for me ruins the romance of football but that’s how it is unfortunately. If you look at it from that side then winning a FA Cup or League cup doesn’t make any difference whereas regular champions league participation (even if you only make the group stage) does.
Not saying you arent loyal mate. Was just saying different people have different lines for how often they will let someone fail. Hard to gauge with a chairman but for example a manager should get at least 2 years of CL failure / no trophies if they have proven to have been decent previously.
The buck for me normally stops at the manager. However im pretty sure everyone is agreement poch isnt the problem and hasnt been sufficiently been backed with transfer money (if we are to believe you arent spending cause of this). Therefore the buck very obviously stops at levy should you fail (depending who you speak to as everyone has different targets)
I don't know about that, a few of the lunatic fringe on Facebook are saying it's Poch's fault because his system doesn't work when you take one or two players out of it ...as if it was just one or two players taken out of it yesterday
A quick interjection that ENIC are the majority shareholders and Joe Lewis is the majority shareholder of ENIC. Daniel Levy is a minor shareholder and Tottenham Hotspur employee. The purse strings aren't his to control, I should imagine DL has little more control over major financial issues than Mauricio Pochettino. DL deserves some serious clog for Jacques Santini, Juande Ramos, AVB, etc, but finances are Uncle Joe, as RDBD has pointed out earlier.
Santini is his biggest mistake because Frank Arnesen suggested Martin Jol should be manager, but then Levy decided A Big Name™ was needed and went for Santini while also bringing in Jol as his assistant. If he listened to Arnesen and brought in Jol we'd not only have been spared Santini's diabolically negative football, but also had a manager who understood the remit given to him by Levy instead of a manager who arrogantly harrumphed at aspects of it, notably how Santini flat out refused to play Carrick because of reasons. Similarly, a lot of the problems with Ramos could have been avoided if Levy put a leash on Comolli either when he started grousing that he'd rather work with Ramos than Jol during the 2006-7 season, which could have spared us Comolli outright sabotaging Jol in the summer transfer window by ignoring his transfer targets and deciding to play a real-life game of Football Manager with ENIC paying for it, or intervening when Comolli was clearly operating outside of Jol's instructions (which could also have been said for the Baldini Splurge)
