I have to admit I shed a tear for the snake yesterday. But it was tears of joy!

  2. I still bear a grudge against Liverpool for the 86 quarter final so get exactly what you mean. But Millwall? Nah....

The problem with Millwall is that they pride themselves on being hated - they even sing songs celebrating that. If they think that we actually supported them on anything then they could get a complex about it <laugh>

Morning all from a wet and windy rural France. It is not the sort of day to consider sitting outside or doing a spot of weeding. I have heard that the experiment of reducing our speed limits on single carriageway roads has actually increased the accident rate rather than reducing it. I haven't seen the figures, but can well believe that people are taking chances to get past others who are plodding along at 80 kph.

That's a strange one Frenchie. I have heard that reducing speed limits has the result that cars are closer to each other, which increases the accident rate - but reduces the fatality rate, because collisions are less serious when they occur. At last the Germans are starting to catch up on this - they appear to regard driving restrictions in the same way the Americans regard interference with their 'right' to carry a gun. Up to now German motorways have been the only ones with absolutely no speed limits - but this is now changing, at long last.

Morning all. Another damp and dreary day outside, so the wood burner will be going to make it at least feel warm inside. We were discussing how different newspapers are better than others for lighting a fire, which took us back to the days when you could gather together a sack of rags, sell them by weight, and a lot of them were recycled into paper. That really came to an end when man made fibres came into being, replacing the natural ones. I read that Morrisons supermarkets are going to replace plastic bags with paper ones. Looks as if we are going back to how things used to be. Plastic bags were not used, so all the paper ones did either get used several times, or did degrade once discarded.

By watching tv scenes from the USA I have the opinion that paper bags are predominantly used there. Having never been there I stand to be corrected.

Snow is expected to fall on the south of England this week, as the UK faces a deep chill.

A band of cloud is predicted to push east across England on Tuesday evening, bringing widespread snowfall.

Around 1 to 3cm is expected to accumulate “quite widely”, the Met Office said.

The Met Office warned of possible disruption, including delays on roads, stranded vehicles and cancelled rail and air travel.

An inch of snow and the country could grind to a halt is quite laughable. I wonder how other countries manage to carry on as normal.

Morning all. Dry, but overcast and a cold wind. We have an orange alert for strong winds later in the day and maybe some flurries of sleet. The huge monthly market in the next village is taking place today, and I really wouldn't want to be a trader standing around.

Blowing a gale here, but not too cold. Lovely and warm with the wood burner and a nice glass of vin rouge. :emoticon-0100-smile
