Why should it be one or the other?

Fair enough we aren't good enough to be number 1...being number 3/4 and taking a trophy seriously enough to win it shouldn't be beyond the capabilities of a club that talks about winning leagues and Champions leagues.

Ok I'll accept that ENIC as a business only goes where the money is but as a fan you do want to see your captain lift a trophy...I can guarantee you not one of you would think 'what's the point, it's only 5 million for Levy at the end of the day' if you had the pleasure of seeing Lloris lift a trophy for us.

There might be no money in it but that's not the point...there's only 4 pots to win...to think that we are above winning two of them when we have 2 pots in over 20 years for a club of our stature is laughable...I might be a plastic but I haven't lost my soul because the game is about Glory...Bill Nick said something like that once. I'll carry on dreaming about winning some **** domestic trophies now and again to give us a break from the hauls of League titles and Champions leagues that are inbound in the near future.

No...we simply want our club to spend what it can afford to do rather than follow in the footsteps of:
    QPR
    Coventry,
    Wimbledon,
    Bradford,
    Sunderland,
    Portsmouth,
    Villa,
    Sheffield Wednesday,
Southampton (managed to sort it out eventually and are now well run),
    Leeds,
    Notts County,
    Bolton,
    Sheffield United,
    Barnsley,
    Wigan,
    Bolton,
    Blackburn,
    Charlton,
Leicester (sorted it out and are now well run)
    Blackpool,
    Norwich,
    Middlesborough,
    Derby,
    Forest,
    Swansea,
    Hull,
    Stoke,
    Birmingham,
    Swindon

All over spent and gambled ... all messed up...all but county were premier league teams and only Swindon, County, Forest, Derby, Blackpool, Barnsley, Bradford and Sheffield United were not established premier league clubs, but the other 21 (TWENTY ONE) were.

Birmingham, Swansea, Wigan, Portsmouth and Blackburn all won trophies this century by spending recklessly.

Villa, Coventry,Southampton, Stoke and Hull all got to FA Cup finals this century doing the same.

The risk is clearly not worth the reward.

Really sorry but people seem to have little or no knowledge about just how many former premier league team wrecked their futures (and the futures of the creditors and employees) by being reckless...if people think that is the way to go they are wrong, end of.

There is a huge difference between reckless and over cautious (mean).

Leicester gave the cups a decent go in the late 90s and over spent massively...and then went into receivership after relegation in 2004 because of their a reckless spending and did not recover until 2014 when they returned to the premier league.

Leicester put out weakened sides in both the league cup quarter final v city and against Newport in the FA Cup and lost both and were slaughtered by their fans.

Winning the FA Cup and League cup does not take you to another level. That is why United sacked LVG the night he won it after failing to get CL football.

Don't tell me what I buy into while ignoring my points...it makes for a repetitive conversation <ok>

If you spend what you do not have you are being reckless.

No one at any of the club's listed thought through the stupidity of their gambles ... I have listed 29 clubs ... 28 of which played in the premier league ... which spent what they could not afford to.
If that's what you wish for your club then fine but nothing that a fan from another team says will make me want my club to behave so recklessly.

United sacked LvG and Jose because the football was unwatchable and dull, not because we didn't reach top 4.

Leicester deserve a little bit of lea way for fielding a slightly weakened team in the SF because they were in with a genuine chance of winning the league (they gave one trophy up for a bigger one) not just holding on to top 4.

I like you RCL, you are a very good poster and I would not try to tell you your thoughts, I go off the general attitude and it seems to be Levy and Poch can do no wrong regardless of the success (or lack of it) they provide. Then again, it all depends on what people class as success.

"Again we're going to have the debate whether a trophy will take the club to the next level. I don't agree with it. It only builds your ego"

I understand that but look at other clubs much smaller than you that don't seem to have the same problems.
Where is the TV, matchday and sponsorship revenue going? You do better than most on all counts.

You can not have it both ways...LVG got the holy grail of a trophy but no CL and was sacked.
Maureen won the EL which got you CL football but league wise you were as bad as under LVG and the football was equally tedious...yet Maureen kept his job.
The next year Maureen produces dour football, loses the FA Cup final but delivered CL football again so keeps his job.
This year, with CL football fading away fast he was sacked.

CL qualification was the reason end of. If it was not Maureen would have never been employed cos his brand of football is pretty ****.

You do not object to a manager who has won the FA Cup being sacked within hours of lifting the trophy...thrrefore, in your mind trophies are not the be all and end all...yet you slate Pochettino for saying this.

As for Levy doing no wrong...he has done a lot wrong, sacking Jol like he did, employing Hoddle, and AVB and making Sherwood our manager, buying Bent and Bentley were all things I was against but I do agree with his financial management of my club <ok>

It shouldn't even be a question. Levy has been Spurs chairman for 17 years he is a fan. Under his guidance the club has raised itself higher and higher through that 17 years, he has built a state of the art training facility and now a state of the art stadium. After a number of attempts and a learning curve for himself he has secured a manager who is now coveted by two of the richest clubs in the world. With his negotiations we have a squad that can compete at the highest level in England and he has done all this while at the same time balancing the books and spending less than all of our direct competitors.
Anybody that want's to get rid of a chairman with that track record is quite frankly not very bright.

As long as you are happy all is good <ok>

What happens if you drop out of the top 4 this season (quite possible at the moment)?

What like Southampton and Leicester, who carried on over spending and went into receivership?
Or like city, who even after being given one were in a complete state until taken over by people richer than God?

All 3 spent time in the 3rd tier of English Football so I would rather we avoid their exàmple

Derby, Huddersfield, Bolton, Birmingham, Coventry etc etc. (all without CL money or top TV revenue)
Arsenal have built a stadium, Liverpool have built "big stand", City have extended their main stand, United have re-built the stadium over the years.
This is a joke of an excuse for not spending on players, like I have said previously, other clubs spend on the team whilst keeping the facilities up to date.
You have been in the CL more often than Liverpool since they nearly went into administration (they have had no cash injection), yet they have managed to break two records for players they needed (keeper and CH) the rest they have built from good management and football knowledge.
I leave us (United), City and Chelsea out of this because we all seem to have hundreds of millions to throw away, that doesn't explain why Arsenal and Liverpool have been more successful than you over the last 10 years.

    What a situation.

Any of us could told Pochettino that that starting eleven was going to be many ways problematic, but to be fair to him, even though I think he could've gone with four at the back from the beginning, I don't think we lost the match because of team selection. We lost because KWP was on some patball wave, and Trippier butchered a penalty.

    My questions are....

Erm, why does Lorente not take the penalties when he plays?

Is it not time to accept that KWP is not a LB and find a young, relatively cheap, third choice English LB to develop, if we don't have one in the academy?

Sad as it is, what people aren't seeing is that some of the recent injuries are down to fatigue. Alli, Sissoko, wern't tackled out of the matches in which they were injured. If Eriksen, Rose and even Winks were next, as the costs of winning the game, how would we feel about the rest of the season?

The squad isn't as strong in depth as people make it out to be.

Some interesting points being made about winning trophies and CL qualification.
A few seasons ago I took the stance that we needed to be in the CL to attract top players, and pay the higher wages to the standard of players we’d wanted/needed to attract. Whilst I understand that qualification year on year is still the most important thing for Tottenham in order to maintain growth, and the domestic trophies still have to take a back step, I am also a bit bemused by the fact that despite us qualifying for the CL for a few seasons now, it has made no difference to our transfer policy. Even though we’ve had the increased revenue and the status of the club has risen, we used to say “we need to be able to offer CL football to compete with other clubs over signing top players” but I’m seeing no evidence of that being true, as we’ve attracted no one of that ilk in several seasons. I think many fans thought this would be the case, as we’d seen our rivals continuously sign established names for many years. It’s no wonder some spurs fans find it hard to sack off the 2 domestic trophies.

    Hang on... what?!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought that spending wasn’t a good transfer policy/solution in your opinion?

Sums the paranoia up...Everton probably boast the best record in English football for consecutive seasons in the top flight...yet some Spurs fans think because clubs like Everton don't follow Levy's infrastructure of running a club they risk the chance of going to ****.

Del Boy types won't be buying the club mate if Lord Levy does decide to sell up, them days are gone...no one parts with near enough a Billion quid in order to asset strip a club and send it up **** creek.

Derby were a basket case of a club for years after the new ground, Bolton, Birmingham, Coventry are all basket cases and Huddersfield are about to get relegated after escaping relegation on the second to last game of last season.
Arsenal ran their club on what they could afford after building their ground and it took 8 years for them to win trophy after the move and like Liverpool are far richer than us.
Mentioning City in the same breath is a joke tbh.
