I've been assured that British people will lose their rights to live and work in 27 countries, their futures stolen. Surely the Remain campaign didn't lie? Malta to offer Britons renewable 10-year residency permits January 23rd, 2019 please log in to view this image Reuters News Service Brexit, Britain, Europe, World 9 Comments please log in to view this image Some 13,000 Britons live in Malta, which was a British colony until 1964, and a third of all the tourists who visit the small Mediterranean island come from Britain Malta will offer Britons living in Malta a 10-year residency permit with the same rights as they currently enjoy if Britain quits the European Union without any agreement, Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said on Wednesday. Malta wants to be the most British-friendly country in Europe after Brexit, Muscat told reporters. While regretting Britain’s decision to leave the EU, Muscat said he agreed with other EU leaders that the withdrawal agreement rejected by the British parliament last week could not be changed. Some 13,000 Britons live in Malta, which was a British colony until 1964, and a third of all the tourists who visit the small Mediterranean island come from Britain. “Britons already living here have nothing to worry about because of Brexit,” Muscat said. Those working in Malta could continue to do so, and students already here would also be able to continue their studies. Britons who move to Malta after Brexit would also be able to receive a 10-year residence permit, but their rights would be like other third-country nationals, he said. Asked about Malta’s efforts to draw away businesses from Britain, Muscat said a number of companies had already opted to set up offices on the island, giving them an EU foothold. Malta, he said, had not targeted large multinationals but instead relatively smaller companies with a few thousand employees. In particular, Malta had targeted firms with parent companies in the United States, India and Japan. There would be a “steady flow” of businesses registering in Malta, he added.
The fact that Malta needs to offer the permit demonstrates that we no longer have the right unless a European country chooses to offer it... If the majority of (let's be realistic for a second) major European economies offer the same with no demand in return, then happy to accept the remain side exaggerated.
People like her do us all the service of effectively ignoring two referendums. I like that she says Scotland didn’t vote for Brexit, but ignores the fact that it did vote to remain part of the U.K., thus binding it to the outcome of the EU referendum. If we’re going to unwind referendums perhaps we might go back as far as Wilson’s of 1975?
I'd be very happy to unwind them all, including the 1975 one. Perhaps we can all agree on this and close the thread?
For anyone who is worried about visiting the EU after Brexit then it’s no biggy In France you need only get a titre de sejour plus there will be many other options https://www.remaininfrance.org/not-yet-resident-or-only-partly-resident-in-france.html#
As I said, if larger markets offer this without the demand of reciprocating (ie free movement), then happy to accept remain side exaggerated. Until that happens, all the story does is demonstrate the point remain made - that we have lost the right to work in other European markets. Time will tell.
And you think the EU will put that forward, knowing that we will reciprocate and no EU citizens will be able to work in the UK? It's a question of need. We will be selective after Brexit. It seems only fair that EU member firms can be equally selective ie they don't have to offer Brits jobs that they can fill from their own citizens Can't see it's any different from Brits working in Aus or NZ, but happy to be corrected
Pretty sure from both French and English sides that travel won’t be that affected The issue for me on Brexit is leaving the country in the hands of clueless Brexiteers who still have their heads in the sand and still no plans Just blaming Europe for their the country’s short comings and actually believing that the U.K. can go it alone in a global market We haven’t the resources or budget to compete as a sovereign nation and in the long term business will be far better off operating outside the U.K. where they will sell us the services we need now and the new services that a Brexiteer hasn’t a bloody clue about We are a consumer nation like nothing else in Europe and I believe demand will increase on that we ain’t going to change and haven’t a clue on how to rebuild our own industries Bollocks to Brexit
RSA who I design for moving it’s legal entity to Luxembourg from the UK walkie talkie 20 Fenchurch street Simply put we need to be in Europe to do business there no good being stuck on an island within a sovereign state People just don’t get it products will be grown for the U.K. markets outside the U.K. in the end
I worked for a company that re-registered in Bermuda. All the work was still done in the UK, but once a year, we had a pleasant few days in Hamilton to hold the AGM. It's token only, for tax in my company's case, presumably for Single Market and tax in yours.
Permits Visas If you want to go and live and work in Europe and they want to let you for a small fee doesn't sound too troublesome
