Bristol City linked with move for Sheffield United striker Leon Clarke
Could he be the man to solve City's striker shortage?

Bristol City have reportedly identified a target in their search for a new striker.

Robins boss Lee Johnson has been clear that he wants to bring in a new front man before the transfer window closes on Thursday next week.

Although they have won their past four games and gone unbeaten for 11, City have been goal-shy this season - netting 35 times in 28 games.

Johnson is also keen to ease the goalscoring pressure on Famara Diedhiou during the frantic final months of the season.

With less than a week of the window remaining, an out-of-favour striker plying his trade for one of the Robins' promotion rivals has emerged as a potential target.

Bristol City have enquired about the availability of Sheffield United striker Leon Clarke, according to reports .

The 33-year-old was among the top scorers in the division last season with 19 goals, but he has been knocked down the pecking order at Bramall Lane this term with David McGoldrick and Billy Sharp providing the goods for the Blades.

The experienced forward has started nine times this season as well as making 15 appearances from the bench, scoring three times and assisting three more.

The Englishman has played for a plethora of clubs in England and would fit the bill in terms of being a physical, reliable goalscorer who might not expect to start every game given his age - exactly what Lee Johnson is looking for.

However, the Robins face competition from Hull City, Millwall and Wigan who are all said to be chasing Clarke's signature.

It also remains to be seen whether Sheffield United would be willing to do business with a potential promotion rival.

Perhaps we should put in a cheeky bid for Jack Grealish?
That would be great - I know we aren’t looking for a midfielder but just to p!55 Villa and Kodjia in particular off - bigger club indeed - mind the gap!

He'd likely be able to step in & do a job which is perfect, but I can't see Sheffield United allowing him to move & strengthen a rival in the January window.

hang on we are in need of a goalscorer, we bought Mo for £1m don't play him! we have Semenyo want to sell we had Mccoulsky who was putting them away at will sold him ..just to name a few of the goalscorers at a tender age … that basically cost peanuts! and we want to buy aged and proven! … will we be going back for YANNICK? Bobby, Joe etc etc etc
just last week there was a picture of 6 of the heart of a Man U team that for almost a decade triumph was unstoppable, provided some of the best England players of the period of that time, and were all HOMEGROWN!

Yes please what a statement of intent.

Bristol City are reported to be one of a number of Championship clubs showing interest in signing Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan.

Sheffield United are also reported to be interested in the Aston Villa forward who was signed from Brentford for £9m in January 2017.

Republic of Ireland international Hogan was not included in the Villa squad on Saturday as they beat Ipswich Town 2-1 in the Championship.

The same Shaun McCoulsky who scored 6 goals in 32 games for Newport and Southend? Or 6 in 27 for Newport and 0 in 15 for Southend? I don’t think I would class him as putting them away at will.
Semenyo is played more as a winger at Newport. Can’t be classed as the type of forward we are looking for.
Eisa is a bit of a mystery but then again the club see’s him in training regularly and decide if they think he’s ready or not.

He’s only played 6 games this season. Remember Diony one great season, and we all know how that one ended.

Is the fact that Semenyo has been recalled mean that he will get a chance at playing or is the move strictly to make him available for transfer? Seeing as I am so far from the real action I think selling him to the likes of Chelsea might sound like a like a good idea on the surface but then he would become just another young pawn in the ever increasing stable that teams like that are allowed to foster.

Best case scenarion for him, and us, would be to sell him for 2 million with a guarantee loan back for 2 seasons and an up of the ante if he meets certain criteria prior to his final move to wherever, plus a huge sell-on clause. Pipe dream probably and as a side question I ask how long can we exist being a loan player squad and survive in this division? Please Mister League boss stop this savage discrepancy between us and them and allow the others a chance to compete and survive financially in a world that has gone to hell in a handcart when it comes to footballing matters.

    Morning moan complete.

He's not done too badly this season. 7 goals this season while playing in the French top tier, from minutes totalling around 16 full matches. I really think Diony is a good player who just didn't work out for us on our downward trajectory.

Not sure how I feel about Hogan. Sounds great on face value but £9m for a player who's barely been able to play this season and scored only 6 goals since the start of last season. It's a lot of risk for that money.

A risk too far in my mind and surely if we are prepared to lump out 9 million then there has to be a better shop somewhere.

Even if he didn't, I'd argue £5m would still be too risky an amount personally. I don't know a huge amount about him to be fair mind.

Agreed - loan with an option to buy might be the best option if there's any truth in this, but not convinced this will come to anything. Villa probably want to try and reduce their wage bill, so they'll want a full transfer and even then be wary about strengthening a rival for the playoffs. Also, they probably agreed to give him something like a £30k a week contract, which the player himself wouldn't be eager to walk away from.
