Couple of hours from home... satisfying win. Was a "bit like watching subbuteo from atop a tall stepladder" as one sage put it!
Sutton: 'Disgraceful' Watford got lucky! Chris Sutton stands by his claim that it was disgraceful for Javi Gracia to make 11 changes to the Watford side for their FA Cup trip to Newcastle, despite leaving St James' Park with a 2-0 win.
Any of that team today could play in any match. Up to 4 or 5 may start on Wednesday and most will be in the 18 and I don't consider them to have been a reserve team at all today. A mix of experience and youth, yes.
Agreed.. Nothing but appreciation for those players and all capable of turning out in the first team.. Sent from my F8331 using Tapatalk
Sutton obviously doesn't realise as some of you say a few of those players could easily play next week at Brighton for example. Gomes would be an able replacement for Foster in goal. Jamaat and Cathcart are regulars when fit whilst Masina would probably be one too if Holbeas hadn't been having a very good season. Hughes/Success and Gray could all start quite easily whilst we had 2 English players (a fit and in form Chalobah would start) in the midfield who are young plus Quina who has been in the match day 18 most of the time since November It was hardly a team just thrown out who will never play again...
Its the pereogative of the coach who plays so whats it got to do with Sutton. I thought it was great that we fielded many non first choice players and did a good job against a Pl team.
One could simply say that Gracia made five changes to the team that drew with Newcastle at home in the EPL: Foster, Mariappa, Pereyra, Capoue and Deulofeu making way for Gomes, Britos, Wilmot, Chalobah and Gray. Benitez made seven with Fernandez, Lascelles, Ritchie and Hayden the four to start both games. Sutton's a bit of an idiot.
Seem someone found team sheets from when Sutton was manager at Lincoln and he changed all 12 players for a cup game !!
