Sadly, we had letters from a variety of sources, including the GP who specifically stated that Mrs WJ couldn't walk 50m unaided, far less the 200m category. It was a very specific reference, as this was the appeal, & she'd already been 'passed fit' for the 200m. Nope, our desk jockey civil servant ignored the evidence from the expert in the field who'd carried out a medical investigation, preferring instead to prefer his notion which was based on God knows what. It was indeed fortunate for him that it was not a face to face meeting, as I would have ably demonstrated to him the difficulties associated with not being able to walk. Sadly, although sympathetic, I think the cops would still have arrested me for forcibly removing his kneecaps with a claw hammer. But at least I would have made my point!
