Sadly life-long Hull City fan and long-time member of the Hull City Southern Supporters Craig Sargent passed away last week aged just 42, leaving behind a wife and two young City-mad lads, Josh aged 8, and Sammy aged 5. Craig was diagnosed with stomach cancer in late November, but passed away last week shortly after starting treatment. Craig really was the nicest of nice guys and was doing a cracking job of raising a couple of Hull City fans in north London (his boys go to the same school as my eldest boy, and it was deeply satisfying when this small primary school had a 'wear your colours' day last year to see three City shirts present amid the sea of Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea).

The suddenness and circumstances of Craig's death have left this loveliest of families in a perilous financial position. Us friends of his family are trying to raise money for them to get them through these next few months, allowing them to grieve without any financial threats. If anyone could spare anything we would all be hugely appreciative. The link is below.

    This is an interesting read:

I once met Ken Brown, another Canadian Dambuster from Moose Jaw and also Barnes Wallis, the bouncing bomb inventor, when he visited my school in the mid nineteen sixties.

Great gesture Richard, we are all part of the Hull City AFC family and need to support our friends in football when tragedy strikes.

Thanks John. I have to say, I know that us City fans squabble and act like tw@ts at times, but this past week has shown me, and more importantly Craig's family, just how many utterly magnificent people support our club.

It's nice to see the fund growing, it must be terrible for his family, this I hope can bring some comfort to them after their loss.

His report on the 1970 cup final replay between Chelsea in Leeds contained the line, "it appeared Mr Jennings would only award a free kick on production of the death certificate".

Thanks for posting the documentary clip City Man. All 15 segments (on You-Tube) are worth watching - great bit of history.

Someone who wrote as though he credited his readers with some intelligence and no need to dumb down.
The only Sports Writer to win Journalist Of The Year.
Hugh McIllvaney and Ian Woolridge were two writers where I bought papers just because they wrote for them. Any aspiring sports journalist would be advised to read their stuff.
