Ha ha! You really are talking nonsense now. 2017/2018 season The average French second tier gate is a paltry 6,600, The UK Championship average is a very healthy 20,500. You obviously haven't watched enough French football.
Can you possibly take your relentless one up man ship and point scoring elsewhere please.. Thank you.. Sent from my F8331 using Tapatalk
You can't equate crowd size with noise SH. Stoke City on match days is louder than Old Trafford - the same could be said of Portsmouth. The locals of Old Trafford have been treated to 'singing lessons' by visiting fans of Ajax, Feyenoord, Anderlecht and St. Etienne in recent years, some of the 606 fans on the United forum said they had never heard anything like it. Some stadiums in England have regained some of the atmosphere from the old days of standing - but the larger ones, ie. Man Utd, Arsenal, Man. City are like libraries - 70,000 prawn sandwich eating muppets doesn't equal noise !
You could also argue that crowd noise doesn't equal people being quieter caring less. I don't shout much at football but don't think I'm a muppet - well not for that reason anyway. That said, I do remember seeing a load of Shalke fans at Embankment station on the way to Chelsea once and the racket was something I'd never heard before or since.
Morning all. Grey and damp, but warmer here this morning. Need to restock the cave to see me through the game this afternoon. There are still a few decent bottles available for €2 each and some that are very good for €3. The trouble is that you find one that you really like, and the following week the shelf is empty.
I would agree with that Dan - there are no 'muppets' at the Vic !!! Also not all prawn eaters are muppets. Also, at my age, I don't do much jumping around and singing either. It is important that the crowd can take over the role of the 12th man, particularly when things are not going so well on the pitch, and some fan groups do this better than others. Most German stadiums are quite loud in comparison to their counterparts in the Premiership but, they have standing areas at most stadiums which makes a difference. At FC Cologne there is a 5,000 standing area (at Dortmund 20,000) and it makes a hell of a difference. The loudest stadium I have ever been to was Feyenoord.
On one of my more recent trips to the Vic. I suggested in rather a loud voice for me, but quite politely as you would expect, that the lino should leave the pitch for an eye test. The look of horror that I received from some of those around me, suggested that maybe I should keep my views to myself for the rest of the game.
The original discussion was about actual bodies turning up at football matches. The attendance figures show football in the Uk is much healthier than in France. Most of their best players ply their trade in the EPL.
I understand that you were simply talking about bums on seats SH. The average attendance figure in the Premiership in 1917/18 was 38,274 and for the Bundesliga 44,646, does this mean that football is healthier in Germany than the UK ? Your logic would suggest that. But this is pure one upmanship. German football has several advantages - most of their immigration comes from other football playing countries (in contrast to the UK.) There are also very few city derbies in Germany, so clubs like Borussia Dortmund have the whole city to themselves - also many German stadiums were upgraded because of the 2006 World Cup. At Cologne you get free public transport if you have a match ticket (at least within the surrounding area), you can stand for about €10 - so the whole situation for fans is different. Yet despite having the highest crowds in Europe only one German club registers as being amongst the richest 15 clubs. In the Premiership there are 6 clubs under the richest 15 clubs in Europe - yet does this financial superiority translate into superiority on the pitch ? - the record of Premiership clubs in the Champions League suggests that the English are not getting value for money. Despite having some of the best individual players the standards in the Prem. are very overrated.
I think that you misunderstood the text SH. The higher attendances in German football do not prove the healthiness of German football against that in England, and neither do your English figures prove anything against those of France. How do you measure the 'healthiness' of football in a country ? You could say that proportionally more clubs in the UK. have financial difficulties, or are forced to enter administration, than is the case in other leagues - is that a sign of health ? It nearly happened to us.
What the comparisons between the professional game in France and the UK shows is between 3 or 4 times as many fans attend in the top 2 divisions. I would expect the difference to be even greater further down the leagues.
It all comes down to what Yorkie called 'Relentless oneupmanship`SH. The fact is that in response to what Frenchie said he had been doing on a Friday night, you found it the perfect opportunity for another dig at France - ie. 'French football is in a sorry state compared to the game in England'. A curious thing to say about the World Champions !!!!! Nonetheless this may simply come down to football not really being the national game in France.
