They have their Kevin Keegan style Messiah in Kenny Dalglish. They have just signed the "new Alan Shearer" from Newcastle. They are a big club but haven't won anything in quite a while. They have had issues with their owners. All that remains is for them to spend a season in the Championship.
They are a big club but haven't won anything in quite a while. ---- They've not won something since the 50's...what an apt comparison
OP, Out of us and man yoo its them that ended up dropping in to division 2,during our time without the league title as opposed to utd's division 2 title The thing is utd are striving to be the new Liverpool and still playing catch up.
Where have you been? I've missed your posts Anyway, can't see us getting relegated this season but the rest of your comparisons are uncanny, next we'll change our strip to black and white stripes! And we'll hire Gazza as our new fitness coach!
"A club can never truly be seen as great until it's been Champions of Europe at least 4 times" Sir Alex Ferguson on the eve of Manchester United's defeat to Barcelona. Still playing catch up.
Striving to be the next Liverpool?? For starters, we are known on a more global scale, by quite a distance actually. We are valued at a greater price then Liverpool We also are much more succesful in the modern era, I honestly cannot imagine many United fans would swap your HISTORY for our RECENT success. The only thing you really have on us is your history, I don't think we are striving to be the next Liverpool at all.
four2three1. Why don't you respond to Page's comment. Your very own SAF has said no club is great until they've won the EC 4 or more times, we have and you haven't. What does that tell you?
People make rash statements, Looking back at that SAF, himself, will probably realise that was a silly thing to come out and say. But he enjoys stiring, we all know that. Many great clubs have not won it 4 times, Barcelona, for example.
"known on a more global scale"? get a grip kid and do some homework before you make a roger hunt of yourself. LFC have supporters globally also. Yes you're valued higher and you also have bigger debts. The modern era will not be the modern era for ever, then you will be talking history. If the many players that have turned out for utd in the CL over the years had tried harder SAF could have been enjoying his retirement by now,But the poor old fella is still playing catch up and trying for the holy grail of more european titles.
I'm not an idiot, quite clearly Liverpool have fans globally, but then so do Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham....but you honestly think that Liverpool compare to Manchester United Globally? If you want to consider the Glazer debt as our own then, yes okay, (actually Manchester United are one of very few clubs who could manage to keep running with our levels our debt), Yet we still manage to finish higher in the table then Liverpool and make a higher yearly income (again showing our global superiority). You last won the league in 1990, 21 years ago, the next 20 years are likely to follow a similar pattern to the last and we will win more trophies than Liverpool . Fergie, has achieved more then any manager in not only Liverpool history, but in british football history, so i'm sure he will enjoy him retirement just fine whenever that happens, thanks for the concern though
four2three1, I dont give a donald duck what you think of LFC but you need a reality check, the old fella will prob overtake us in titles this season unless arsenal do the business. But the man is torturing himself trying to catch up on the big stage,he needs 3 more to "knock us off our perch",and you know theres no chance of that happening. So is steve bruce, allardyce, darren ferguson or david moyes gonna get the success in europe utd crave when the govan gob retires?
You's really shouldn't be having the argument of who is known more globally. You are both two massive clubs, who will be known in every country across the world. But simply, Man Utd will be seen as the most successful. I'm a Newcastle fan, and whilst I believe we have a massive following world wide, and the name will be known, but that's about it. No where near as big as you's two. If I am being honest, as a neutral, Man Utd are far bigger, their home atmosphere is more consistent than Liverpool's, no offence to the Liverpool fans, but its quite simple that you only turn up on a special occasion, and Man Utd have a better away support, and how Liverpool fans have justify getting 35k is a joke, no way should a club like Liverpool not sell out a 42k seater, protest or no protest. Liverpool are still huge, but have fallen so far behind Man Utd in 2 years.
Badger, Im not denying utd are a bigger club,im not denying they have more fans. Im saying the manc is deluding himself that SAF and utd's success will go on forever.Jeez lad we felt the same .
