Bristol City boss Lee Johnson reiterates desire to land striker in January in interview with Sam Allardyce "Hasn't got to be a target man but someone who's a willing runner and somebody that's a consistent goalscorer" Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has reiterated his desire to land a strike during the January transfer window. Following Saturday's win over Nottingham Forest, the Robins boss was open about wanting a goalscorer to ease the pressure on Famara Diedhiou during the frantic final months of the season. He has reaffirmed that desire in a radio interview with former Everton and England manager Sam Allardyce this morning (Tuesday, January 22). Speaking to Big Sam on Alan Brazil's Talksport breakfast show, Johnson said: "I would take another striker, somebody that was as proven as we can get with our resources. "Our strikers have been doing a great job but we have suffered injuries, and I think goals obviously at this level are not easy to come by, and if you've got somebody that's clinical up there to share the load with the current crop we've already got that can really give you a boost." Johnson believes more firepower could be the key to getting into the playoff places or beyond. He added: "When I played for Bristol City previously and we were sort of flirting around the top two, I remember Stoke going out and getting Shola Ameobi I think was one player and Ricardo Fuller, and that inevitably took them over the line through that quality. "I do think we've got a good squad, we've got good depth in defensive areas, but it would be nice if we could just get some form of physical striker over the line. City are unbeaten in 11 games and have won their last four. He added: "We're enjoying it. Really good run we're on. The lads are playing well, defending well, and not conceding too many goals so it's good so far. "Obviously the league's a brilliant league and very, very difficult so we can't rest on our laurels but at the moment everybody's enjoying it. "The boys at the moment are playing well, they've got a clarity in their roles both in and out of possession and I think when you've got that it gives you half a chance." Discussing the win over Forest, the Robins boss added: "The boys were brilliant in their professionalism, the way we played. Obviously it was a difficult occasion because the prodigal son returned if you like in Martin O'Neill and the atmosphere was electric in that first 15 to 20 minutes. "But we rode out the storm and scored a good goal in the second half, and in the end it was reasonably comfortable." https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bristol-city-boss-lee-johnson-2455710

Top praise aimed at LJ on Talksport by Goffy & Adrian Durham, regarding English managers. What he's done with little budget and losing top players but still doing so well.....But to prove himself, he does need to take us up..
I think that is the ultimate, but to prove himself to date? WELL I reckon he's gone a long way to doing that already … should we finish top 8 I will happy but without going back to check think I said finish 6th!
He is spot on get that top prolific scoring striker and we will get a top six spot. Don’t and we will finish around 8 to 10 which I would be happy with. But if you want it you gotta invest and now is the time.
If the target is right yes, but very easy to spend a fortune on the wrong player, who does more harm than good.
That someone we need is out there in the bushes and it might take a tracker dog to find him. I would rather like to believe that we already have a striker in our sights and we are now in the final details stage, rather than wait for the mop up type players that may only become available over the last few hours of a generally hectic and over priced transfer window. This one signing could very well be the key to unlock our ever building squad and take us somewhere nice for next season, and I didn't mean Botswana.
LJ will bring someone back from Germany in his suitcase. Why else is he over there? Bratwurst and Bier? Good enough reasons mind!!
