It's the fact that he's too safe with the ball when he's receiving it from a CB that annoys me. More often than not his first thought is to look to the side or back again when there's options further up the pitch. What's most annoying is he has it all in the locker to be a good player, he can make great passes, he's shown the other day he can also get forward nicely but it's all too far and few between. He doesn't do it enough. I'm just at a stage where I'm tired of waiting for him to become the player he can be. Yeah I don't understand why we keep persisting with Eriksen on set pieces when Trippier's on the pitch. As for Trippier himself, I think you may be right. Last season I thought he was really good and I defended him many times on here, yet this season he's been shocking, maybe the WC heroics got to his head but he's been utter ****. It's made worse that Aurier has hardly been better when played along with Poch still seemingly refusing to give KWP a run of games. It's something we need to address in the summer, I'd happily ship out both Trippier and Aurier if we could get someone in to then compete with KWP. KWP won't wait around forever being a third choice RB.
Mousa I and Big Vic were pretty poor too. If they weren't they'd have been at Barca or Madrid. Given that shooting is a skill that can be learned and improved upon, it's poor that talented professional footballers can be so bad.....still, Gareth Bale's right foot was a proper 'swinger'. Love this......
MOTD2 highlights focusing on Winks' influence, energy, forward passing and his MOTM performance! 102 passes, 72 passes in the opposition half, won possession 11 times and had our most shots on target with 2. This I agree with, though I don't think Trippier's changed much. Our system has, as have the opposition. I'd love to know where our other two right-backs have gone in the last couple of weeks.
He always makes a lot of passes in a game, it’s the more potent and creative passes I want from him though - which he has in his locker - yet tends to prefer the 5-10 yards ones. He got the MOTM award due to the goal, and deservedly so as it was a great move that he started and finished. If only he’d tried doing that on a regular basis throughout the whole 90 minutes or in the other 95+ games he’s played for the club, I wouldn’t be so negative towards him.
He could score the winning goal in the CL final for us, be the driving force as England win a trophy, cure cancer, sort out Brexit and find you the sexiest soulmate for you to spend the rest of your life with and the first time he made a 5 yard side ways pass you'd still bloody slate him
I did see it. Which is why I can’t understand why you’re a huge Trippier fan! I don’t get what he’s done over the last few seasons, as well as how poor he’s been this season to warrant being a favorite. But also how Winks is at the opposite end of the spectrum as public enemy number 1? I could understand you disliking both, but how are they poles apart?
was always going to be the case ... Chelsea (away cup), Palace (away cup), Watford (home league), Newcastle (home league), Leicester (home League), Dortmund (home CL), Burnley (away league), Chelsea (away league), Arsenal (home league) .... 9 games by 3rd March with no Kane or Dele and possibly Son. Plus some of them without Sissoko. The rest of the team will need to dig in big time if we are to get through this period and still be in a good position in the league and cups.
Last season Tripps was really good. Kept Salah, Hazard, Sanchez and even Ronaldo all quiet in certain games. Everyone was constantly expecting the worst but he kept on surprising them with solid performances, I’m pretty sure you yourself even gave him a fair bit of praise in stages although I can’t be arsed to search through comments. When he’s on form I don’t think there are many better RBs in the Prem. This season he’s been ****e though, no arguments here. I’ve called for KWP to be given more chances but for one reason or another Poch hasn’t done so. We’ve got to look at RB in the summer as an area that needs to be worked on. Trippier’s form coupled with Aurier’s inability to cement a spot in the side is a cause for concern. Winks on the other hand, has been one of our weakest players for god knows how long.
Yep, he did have some good games, and I praised him when he proved me wrong, because i’d also stated he’s average. Which I still stand by. And as PNP says, he’s reached his level, and I agree with that. I guess what confuses me is that both Winks and Trippier get slated by a fair amount of fans for being “negative”. For example, sideways and backwards passing. The frustrations I see some fans have with both are for similar reasons. That’s why I questioned how you can such different opinions of both. For what my opinion is worth, as things stand they are squad players who are at a level where they can come in and do a job. But neither set the world alight in their own right. However, I think Winks has more potential than trippier, and is useful as part of a rotating midfield as things stand. At the moment though, I don’t think he’s any better than someone like Ryan Mason. Very similar ability, IMO. Time will tell. Trippier on the other hand, is close to being in the category of being sold for the right money, IMO. He’s not pushed on and improved. In fact, I’d say he’s gone backwards significantly this season. I don’t know how long Poch will put up with that, bearing in mind the sort of premium we could fetch for him and how tight our funds appear to be.
No doubt Trippier's not at his best but isn't he playing through a groin injury, according to MP? If that's the case, maybe we should throttle back on him.......we haven't got many players left.
For me, when Trippier is on form and utilised, he’s a dangerous asset as there isn’t a better crosser in the division. Problem is, he hasn’t been crossing anywhere near as much as he used too while his defending has gone tits up. It’s been frustrating that we’ve not given KWP a run. It may have done Tripps some good as well as it would’ve provided a much needed kick up the arse. As for Mason comparisons, I’d have Ryan back any day of the week over Winks. I’ve said before, Winks actually has more natural talent but Mason used what he had to full effect, whilst Winks I feel constantly holds himself back. Trippier’s at an age and stage where he didn’t really need to improve but he shouldn’t have regressed, which is what he’s done, if he’d remained at last season’s level, there’d be no real worries.
With our record of using youth players there has to be a sensible and valid reason Pochettino's not used KWP
I do agree to some extent but we haven’t been utilising the academy as much in recent seasons as we did in the first few. When you think back then, we had Bentaleb, Mason, Carroll, Townsend and Kane all featuring fairly regularly, with Winks, Onomah and CCV trying to get sporadic chances. Nowadays, we still use Kane and Winks, while Skipp has only played due to a mass of injuries and KWP is still being used very sparingly. Poch did say a year or two ago that it was easier for young players to get in the side back then which is true, but I still don’t see why the likes of KWP has been kept right on the fringes, especially this season where he’s impressed when played at a time neither of the more senior RBs have managed to cement the spot as their own. Our HG quota is also pretty dire this season, which further speaks of our lack of English/ academy talent in the side.
It suggests that there is an issue of some kind. He played against Barcelona in a crucial game therefore if he is not playing him at the moment he must believe he has a sound reason for doing so.
