Thing is though, the PL is filled with clubs one might consider "minnows" these days. Huddersfield, Fulham, Cardiff, Brighton, Burnley, Bournemouth......these are all smaller clubs than Southampton! If you go down to the championship, do you then hope you dont win that, so you dont get promoted to the PL again!? How's that work?
In my view West Brom have had it the "best" of the smaller clubs. Yo-yoing between the leagues is much more appealing to me than finishing 8th-17th 10 years running. The PL is pointless for clubs outside the top 5 or 6. First season or 2 it is exciting as you are new to the league and playing at the top level is interesting, but once you have been around for a few seasons it all seems completely pointless and hard to get enthusiastic about it. You are right that Saints fans probably are more cynical about it than others due to the history of managers/players coming and going but I know fans of other mid table clubs who feel very similar.
No I just want to enjoy my football in a decent atmosphere in a stadium not filled by plastics. Hardly though, not exactly like we're a big club in that division isit?
Southampton attracts plastics? I thought it was only the successful teams who attracted glory hunters? Also, define "Plastics", that seems to be one of those overused words that no one really knows the meaning of anymore.
Doesn't every club? The people who buy ST's at clubs not because they support them but because they want some local PL footy. They generally contribute nothing to the atmosphere and are there more to see the oppositions 'stars'. Probably not the best word actually but you get the point.
Plastics are people who go to less than 10 games a season but happily post on a football forum all about "their" team, and try and score points over people who are far better fans than them and actually attend games.
I'm a telly clapper...doesn't mean I'm blind. Thing is we can't all attend games...I'd rather not bother than to do a 300 mile round trip. It's just not right up there as a priority. Still it doesn't mean people who do attend games don't talk bollocks.
Same. I love football, but I have things I would rather spend £2,000 a year on than a Chelsea season ticket. I go to games every now and then, and I watch Lower league games often, because it costs a tenner per game and I have the Don's stadium 10 minutes from my house. To watch 1 Chelsea game now, sets me back £350 if I include tickets, travel, food etc To watch MK Dons, for me and my eldest, £25, £30 if we get a KFC after ......
I'd say the 'plastics' are the ones who jump on the bandwagon when a team get promoted then sod off again if/when they go down! Plus the day-trippers who just want to see a Prem team! Every PL team has them
No one has to say it...I'd say it's open to interpratation I was just on about Magic's post...not your debate with Bope.
People who do attend can talk ****e. It’s just worse when someone who rarely/never goes does it. Not to pick on Matth but he’s a textbook example.
