    Must admit I do think of the old saying Better The Devil You Know when thinking about Libya.

    No doubting the guy is a **** but the attrocities attributed to him have been happening for years so why now when it appears his more moderate son is to take over does everyone jump in?

    The Western world were quick to back the rebels without even knowing who they are, what they plan to do etc. A few days after the UK recognised the rebels as the legitimate government of Libya the leader was executed by fellow rebels <doh>

    Who are the rebels who now have power? There appears to be very different groups, some with Western ideas,some with links to extremism - but how many in each group & how powerful are each group?

    Like Iraq, Libya has not been home to the recent 'Al-Queda' movement in the region, it sold its oil to the west......

    Now Iraq is rife with extremists.

    Now Afghanistan is rife with poppy fields.

    Now as in after foreign interference <ok>

    they had to take gaddafi out because he was making his own gold currency and was only going to accept gold for oil.

    The pictures of Blair and even Bush meeting Gaddafi are embarrassing, smiling and holding hands. I didn't mind so much at the time because I knew what it was all about, it was securing energy.

    But the current demonisation of Gaddafi is now boak inducing, stop treating us all like idiots - we all understand why you did it, why not treat us like ****ing adults and stop this pretense of moral supremacy over an issue which was always economic.

    i'm glad he's been removed (officially) as leader. The guy wears a dress and has worse plastic surgery than wacko jacko, never mind his atrocious human rights record, he's just ridiculous to look at.

    I love the hypocrisy of the US and UK Govts;

    Today we will fight the rebels in one country <ok>

    Tomorrow we will support the rebels of another <ok>

    By sheer coincidence, Saddam Hussein announced that Iraq was only going to deal in Euros for their oil in late 2000.

    So what we've learned is that the US are a touchy bunch. How come they haven't taken us out yet, we don't use the dollar?

    It's not about other countries adopting the dollar, but about the dollar maintaining it's value as a trading commodity, as it's not linked to anything, like gold.
    A move away from oil trading in dollars would be extremely damaging to the US economy, apparently.
