Subbed part way through second half - got clattered in 1st half, but not sure if that was why Fingers crossed he's being rested for Saturday...
I've heard he's played rubbish in a lot of matches but scores. Now would he be able to do that in the premier league I mean score I have my doubts I'm all for giving him a chance at Blackburn but I wouldn't play him at Chelsea maybe with Muto away at the Aisa cup maybe have him on the bench at Chelsea there's a massive gap between junior football and premier league football.
He was anonymous tonight in my humble opinion. I watched him with interest as he has been linked with a loan move to us. I didn’t eee him get “clattered”. To be fair your kids played some ok stuff at times but our 70% reserves completely outplayed them. And our 2 youngsters (Mumba - youngester player on show tonight on either side, and Kimpioka - younger than most of yours) looked streets ahead of your youngsters. Might be because we have a gaffer who gives our youngsters a chance.
This is a key point. If we crashed through 2 divisions and had a relatively unknown manager in charge I'd expect him to blood most of our youngsters too.
Sure, but there's no escaping how **** our youth set-up actually is. Notice the Daily Mail ran a story yesterday suggesting the club might be incompetent in its' handling of Peter Beardsley, who has now been suspended on full pay for an entire year.....
We've blooded youngsters for years at all levels and have a decent history of it - Henderson & Pickford picked for England (Colback in a squad but dropped out cos of injury but he was picked - not that I could understand why!) Henderson and Pickford fetched almost £50m in transfer fees - because we blooded them in the premier league. Players will stay at the level if not given the chance - need to be loaned out and given 1st team experience if they're not getting it in house - only player in your starting 11 last night who I though looked OK was the number 44 in midfield - no idea of his name but he looked OK on the ball. Liked falling over mind! I have to say I saw none of your players last night that I would have playing at SAFC so I understand them not getting a chance but surely it hasn't been that way all the time since Rafa started there? I do agree it's easier to blood at a lower level - but that's what the loan market is for - loan them out to a lower league to gain the experience - you have 3 players out on loan (Saivet, Colback and Gayle - all senior players) - We have 3 out on loan and 2 of ours are kids gaining experience - and we've just recalled other kids who were in the squad last night and will likely be loaned out for the remainder of the season.
and look where it got you the Turd Division we did they same with Paul Gascoigne, Chris Waddle, Peter Beardsley all England Internationals all sold for big money at the time where did it get us - the second division definately not the Turd
Neither Sunderland nor Newcastle have a good recent history of producing quality youngsters or giving them a chance. I'm regularly told by Sunderland supporting friends that they have a fantastic academy, we are miles behind them, etc etc. Then I ask them to name this illustrious list of youngsters they have produced. "Henderson and Pickford". Great. One guy who last played for them about 7 or 8 year ago and Pickford. Sorry is that it? Well if there is no time limit on these things Aaron Hughes, Steve Watson, Steve Howey, Robbie Elliott, Andy Carroll, Steven Taylor, Lee Clark, Paul Dummett, Fraser Forster, Tim Krul, Kevin Mbabu, Shola Ameobi, Adam Armstrong - I mean most of these played at the PL level, many have international appearances to their name. I think the big difference is Newcastle supporters accept that their academy has not been a roaring success. Whereas Sunderland supporters appear to be completely deluded.
Will be good for his development, just need to make sure if he does well and gets some goals down there we give him a chance.
