They are, seen them. Very popular in Cornwall and not a two-a-penny pub band of 60+ year old hipsters.
Still takes a lot of balls to perform in front of an audience and put your talent out there? I used to say the same thing to the young boxers years ago, many freeze and become a mess, so whatever Hiag does, he enjoys doing it and by what I have seen, he knows his way around a fret board.. Sorry to be a killjoy like..
‘Hey Joe, where are you going with that gun in your hand’. Yes it does and yes I froze the first couple of times. The band Piskie plays in are consummate performers especially the singer and the brass section. They don’t play standard pub style music you hear all over the country. Very much Latin overtones with a hint of jazz funk. As you say if you enjoy it, why not but most are accutely aware of their level. Having watched both I have to say they are poles apart.
They probably are, there were some brilliant club bands around in the North circa 70's 80's like Brass Alley, Lucas Tyson etc but then you had the bands not quite there that normally had one or two members that knew their stuff. I remember seeing Free early 71 at Dunelm, Durham when Kossoff could hardly hit a note in his self-inflicted heroin coma but it was acceptable because it was noise, don't get me wrong Kossoff for me was one of the greats with a unique sound. Music is a funny business, one mans orchestra is another mans 12 bar blues.. As long as it sounds good then **** it..
