Strong rumour going around that we are after Billy Paynter on loan, and its not from Football Rumours ! Paynter is currently at Leeds but not really featuring. What do we all think ? He can score a goal at this level, but is it yet another bullshit rumour. At least it did'nt come from Acworth so it may have some legs .

That would be a great signing for us, and him. League One is his natural level and he would surely form a potent goalscoring partnership with BWP.

I hope this rumour comes to fruition.

Other than with Swindon his goalscoring stats are far from prolific. That being said, neither was BWP's prior to last season with Plymouth (where initially they were looking to offload him and he started the season on the bench. If its true then I guess it could be very decent, but I wont hold my breath.

Rifleman, you have a source you could share?

When the rumour of Paynter came up a month ago that we were to buy him I commented that he is nicknamed "barn door billy" amongst Leeds fans because he can't hit one. As WWOCB has commented, he is far from prolific.

Paynter stats are not fantastic, but still not too bad:
Port Vale 144 appearances 30 goals , Hull City (loan) 22 appearances 3 goals
Southend United (loan) 9 appearances 0 goals, Bradford City (loan) 15 appearances 4 goals
    Swindon Town 122 appearances 45 goals , Leeds United 23 appearances 1 goal .
Not too successful at Leeds, but good record at Swindon and not too bad at Port Vale.
Rumour was picked up on Addickted, which has a reasonable reputation for getting things right, but it has also appeared elsewhere.

That's right. If you predicted it last year then you were so off the mark it would'nt be true. We did'nt have a pot to piss in last year, and he was linked with a permananent transfer not a loan. Don't give up your day job. By the way, what do you do for a living old boy ?

Paynter works with Austin... get him a partner he can work with and he'd be a real asset... frankly I'd have brought him on on Monday!!

Unless we have a long term injury up front, do we really need him? We don't want to make the mistake Pardew made, of signing more and more players, and ending up with a bloated and confused squad.

Fair point, Killer. But if Benno goes out on loan and we replace him like-for-like then it shouldn't be a problem.

Hmm only problem would be that he would presumably be coming in to get games, which would mean Hayes dropping to the bench and Euell dropping into Bensons spot in the footballing abyss. Wouldn't make Hayes or Euell very happy, and the last thing we want is an unhappy squad.

    Damn that five substitutes rule!

Having two extra seats on the bench may go some way towards appeasement.

<laugh> I'm still fuming at that decision, there isn't even any logic behind the excuse that stronger teams benefit, because all teams are limited to only being able to bring on their 3 strongest subs.

Our squad's big enough already. When we play Exeter compare the size of the 2 squads and you'll see what I mean. We must be expecting a lot of suspensions and injuries if we're thinking of dipping into the loan market already.
