Yeah I definitely don't think we'll move Ely on this month. Partly because 6 months is too early for Ralph or the club to make their mind up. Partly because it would probably mean having to replace him, and I doubt we'd be interested in signing any such player this month. But I wouldn't be shocked if he's not here on the opening day next season.
Agree. The point is where does that ‘fear’ come from? If it’s a confidence thing then I think he’ll find it under Ralph and his team. If they take a different view, he’ll be gone soon.
I think if someone was interested we would let him leave as he must be on decent wages and I doubt he will feature heavily, but that's just me guessing!
I bit like when we signed Billy Sharp to help get us over the line, I would think that most of the top end of the Championship would happily take Charlie for six months. The reward of promotion, if secured, would more than pay his wages. (I know we signed Billy, rather than loaned him. But given that he basically never played for us again, there are similarities.)
My guess is that he was hoping that we'd react by playing more defensively to protect the lead. Was the case earlier in the year, sacrificed midfielders for attackers, got an equalizer. But we don't really retreat into a defensive shell anymore unless forced to, and were rather happy to have the whole of midfield.
