We really cannot afford such a luxury as 2-3 playing strikers and two sitting on the bench when we have a defence as poor as we do. In an ideal world I would agree with you but there is obviously something wrong at the club when it comes to funds for players and wages.

Playing McCormack wide would mean Clayton and Howson in the middle leaving out Nunez, another luxury bench warmer, I can't understand you feeling Keough up front and McCormack out wide when he has been scoring goals...

mccormack drifts around where ever he plays anyway so would probably still score goals from wider positions.

and i wouldnt call it having 'luxoury bench warmers'. id call it having quality players on the bench to call upon if a game needs changing rather than having no striker on the bench like we have been doing. look at teams like leicester and west ham. they have lots of quality players on the bench, that is NOT a BAD thing is it?.

I did say in an ideal world it would be great. I totally agree we should have a quality 16 right through but we haven't because Bates won't release funding....

I can't see having a quality 6-7 on the field and a quality 2-3 on the bench of being any use to us at this present moment in time, we need to sort the defence out first. I personally would have Sam Nunez Clayton Snodgrass through the middle up front McCormack and Becchio. I feel Howson is over rated so he would be my luxury player to bring off the bench and instead of looking at Strikers I would be trying to sign a decent defender or two and I would make a decision of where I felt Lees was best suited and keep him there, probably RB

well yeah of course the defence is a priority, but if an opportunity comes to strengthen the squad in other areas then it must be taken.

Not if it squanders our chances of offering money or wages in other areas. You are missing the point, Bates has said Grayson has a yearly budget, a total money pot for both signing players and wages.

One thing we know for sure is that the pot is piss poor, we have dead wood like Paynter, Parker, Bruce, O'Brien and thankfully no more Bessone or Grella. Why bleed money out again for strikers who are going to keep a bench warm.

Forssell is a quality signing,a current international on a free. Obviously the defence is a priority but we're waiting for the loan market to open when hopefully we'll be bringing in much needed reinforcements.
Signing Forssell doesn't mean there's no money left for defensive additions. Grayson isn't THAT stupid......is he?

Some decisions SG makes really don't make sense. Where does he see Forsell fitting in? What does the mean for Paytner and why did he say he was still 'part of my plans'? Why did we turn down money for Paytner if he's now our 6th choice striker when all fit? What does this mean for the future of Keogh?

The most logical explanation to this is:

    - Somma is out injured for most likely the entire season. (The 6 months was never confirmed by the club, only reported by Davide Somma himself)
    - He sees McCormack as the leftwing replacement for Gradel.

If neither of those are true, it means we would have Becchio, Keogh, McCormack, Forsell, Somma and Paytner. We reduce the wage bill by releasing the surplus to requirements Grella but then sign ANOTHER striker...

Also, at the start of the season, SG had clearly set us out to play a lone striker with Howson just behind. So does this mean we'll be 4-4-2 for the whole season now.

    Snodgrass, Howson, Clayton, McCormack
    Becchio/Keogh - Forsell/Paynter

That's the only logical team I could think of regarding this decision.

Okay let us say he is good, then why turn down a money on the table offer for Paynter and why take Keough until December. As the other guy has stated where is Forrsell going to fit in. Someone is going to be 'only on the bench' as we can't fit them all into the team.

And for all those that feel he is a quality signing - Do you see the large queue lining up to get his signature? No I don't either....

The more I think of this, the more I am confused, WHY do we need another forward? Something is wrong here, something very wrong.
