For us, yes. For O’Dowda I’m not so sure, with Leeds reportedly sniffing and in their position - I did fear COD might have opted to leave us (I posted on another thread a while back). However, it would cost Leeds quite a lot to have him now!!
The option of a year extension by the club would have been agreed when he signed for us from Oxford, so he would have had pretty much zero say. My personal belief is that he is likely to want to move on, either to a Premiership club, or a 'bigger' Championship side willing to pay much higher wages. I'd expect him to stay for now but maybe be sold in the summer, unless we manage an unlikely promotion, in which case he may be persuaded to sign a new contract.
So when we signed Callum O’Dowda back in June 2016 we should of given him a five year contract with a rolling option of another year. And likewise a 4 year contract for Wright and Taylor? Perhaps in hindsight we should of got Flint, Reid and Bryan on a 10 year contract, but Engvall on zero hour contract These have only been given a extra year as exercised by the club. The players themselves might of wanted us not to but it was down to initial agreement back when they signed that benefitted the club more than the player.
I don't have any problems with this news but the timing seems strange when most other teams are announcing comings and goings and here we are announcing stayings. Interesting scenario after virtually saying we can only bring in cost effective signings and only if they are available. Good news anyway.
Long contracts , maybe that’s what we should have done with the Ashton Gate 8 ,........ oh wait a minute that’s exactly what we did do, that went well didn’t it ? ...
Maybe that is exactly why it was announced now, along with the two younger players. To divert attention from the fact we aren't signing any new players.
I think you will find the timing is due to the original contracts. City add a 1 year extension which they have to trigger in January as once a player only has 6 months left on his contract he can talk and sign pre contract agreement with a club abroad. Hence City have to trigger before that happens.
I’m still struggling to understand why John said we should of tied them done to 2021/22. Wonder if he done the spreadsheets for coatings in the 70’s and talked the club into it
there must be a high lead content in your area! or no specsavers near you ROD... If they are going to keep them on the books for a year that's ok, but I said ….. nothing to do with long term contracts of 10 years or to do with the AG8 [ that's just an extension of 2 years, 2 years being 8 less than 10] simply put It would have meant this time next year … that would be January 2020 … players were not thinking I can leave in 6 months for free, however we will be in the same position as now, half way through a season and having players able to go and find contracts elsewhere and leave for free. At this time when we are doing well, [ checkout the table] we would have a whole season, that's the 19/20 season where they, that's the players involved with these extensions, would not have it on their minds that in 6 months they could negotiate what they wanted elsewhere. that scenario would arise in January 2021 when it would be clearer where the club stands either up [doubtful] playoffs or better [ possible].
Nope, too long for me to read all that mate. Got to Specsavers and yep there is one a mile away thanks. I am actually in for an eye test tomorrow, but not them
