Because it's ****e, it will literally ruin live football as a spectacle and for what? To slow the game down, take the emotion out and still not really solve anything. It needs binning.
VAR will remove the decisions that you know are wrong when just sat there in the stands. The ridiculous sending off, the obvious offside goal, the dives for penalties etc etc. What is happening now is why it’s only currently a trial. The decisions need to be quick and as I was saying last night only overrule when it’s a clear and obvious mistake. What would help is a review of the offside rule, as it seems it’s original purpose in the game has been somewhat lost. It’s always been there to stop you gaining an advantage by being goalside of the final defender when a team mate seeks to pass to you. It seems that has somehow morphed into “the attackers left plum was ahead of the defenders toe, therefore he’s offside” are you really gaining any sort of genuine advantage by having a centimetre of your torso ahead of the defender when a cross comes in? Or your left eyebrow was ahead when played through 35 yards from goal? Ditch the fractional ****e before VAR comes in permanently.
Exactly. I thought Derby's goal was onside last night. A really dodgy decision. He was level at worst and that always used to go in favour of the attacker, no idea if they decided to get rid of that?
Hahaha just seen the disallowed goal, 3 or so minutes to come up with that decision? Can't wait till there's 4 of those a game with the breaks in play sponsored by funky ****ing pigeon. As long as the millions of fanboys in Asia are happy though I suppose.
Completely agree ... technically it got the right decision last night ... but changes to some of the existing rules would also help ... e.g offside rule .. should be changed for the benefit of the attacker ... only offside if clear daylight between player and last defender ... then you don't need 2 minutes to decide ... Libby needs to stop crying now ... yes VAR can lead to delays - but so do controversial incidents that have players surrounding the ref ... that's always been in the game ... at least with VAR you tend to end up with the right decision ultimately Saints ... beaten by a team with 3 Leicester rejects up front
They had ‘clear daylight’ advice to officials year ago didn’t they? i.e. that there had to be clear daylight between the attacker and defender for it to classed as an obvious offside? Maybe that’s too far, but something that removes the kind of decision we saw last night. In other words, if you have to watch it 10 times and draw lines on the pitch with a computer, then it’s not a clear offside.
As I've just posted - the rules need changing - not blaming VAR for getting it technically correct under the present rules ... and if it hasn't already been mentioned, the "clear and obvious" criteria does not apply to offside decisions - because the offside rule as current is clear in itself - "any part of the body that you could score a goal with" ...
You lost to ****ing Newport As long as you're happy to have 4 or 5 2min+ stoppages a game and being unable to celebrate goals anymore. That's the way it's headed, the refs will be scared of making decisions and will rely on it more and more. Seen plenty of decisions where VAR got it wrong btw, including last night
^^^^ This ^^^^ VAR will get the vast majority of decisions correct and it will be a lot smoother once fully bedded in and used consistently
I've said for a over a year that it should be set in stone that if it's not overturned within 30 seconds then you play on. If it takes as long as it is a lot of the time then it's simply not clear and obvious.
More than happy to have the delays if it ends up with the right decision ... and has been pointed out already, delays haven't just started because of VAR ... yes it may take some time to bed in ... that's the price you pay for any change ... PS we didn't have 2 cracks at Newport and **** up a 2 nil lead twice Saints
So what do you do with a player rolling around? ... play on after 30 seconds ... don't discriminate against VAR you ****
This is the problem with VAR for me too. Even when it's been reviewed it's still contestable. To be honest, I'd rather see a few mistakes here and there than endless delays.
But it doesn't always end up with the right decision, a lot of decisions are subjective so it still won't stop controversy. The other things that delay play are in the refs control to stop, you think they won't surround refs drawing a tv screen? Not all change is good
Wrong - it will definitely help the **** officials to get it right ... but it is a given that we need better officials in any case
