PS. If you want an example of the breathtaking arrogance of the club itself, can you believe they've got a huge 19 on the side of their shi, sorry stadium.

    So true <applause>

The exact same thing happened to me when we lost the Champions League final. Us Chelsea fans were hurting as it is a team we actually support week in week out and feel the anguish when we lose and the delight when we win so it was an even bigger kick in the teeth <ok>

I add those words redHC because you are clearly overlooking the fact that even before they were all but wiped out the Busby Babes had captured the imagination of football followers and after they were wiped out the rebuild and reconstruction of the side that ten years later won the european cup also captured the imagination.

It's pushing it to conveniently leave these bits out and suggest that Munich gave us bragging rights, whatever axe you might have to grind with us. Munich gave us mourning, the previous and post Munich success of our side is what gave us bragging rights.

As for your bad experiences at the hands of our fans, let's not kid ourselves it doesn't happen both ways. Otherwise, if that's your reason for hatred then it's your hate. At least there is a reason, rather than 'my playground mates in X all support United so I hate them'.

And in the late 70s and 80s it was the dippers as the default team for glory hunters
Now its UTD as the top dog with all the glory hunters, until another team takes over, they they will get the glory hunters.

    Reason for hating Liverpool...
They say there a 'big club' when there not even on channel 5 this year.
( I understand 20 YEARS ago Liverpool were a big club.

Constantly compare themselves to united when united are offically the biggest club in English football.
Liverpool have Never won the premier league.

This year is not 'your year'.... It never is.

Liverpool are infact so unsuccessful that they obsess over united because they're simply better and deep down they all know it.

'There never any united fans from manchester'

Guess what.... There's Liverpool fans outside Liverpool aswell.

United attract fans from all over the globe because they are a BIG CLUB.

Andy carroll is a joke. 35 mill and capello comes out n says he's gta cut out drinking, how is a Geordie, living in Liverpool going to achieve this??

Que every liverpool fans hurling pointless abuse...

    Yes that's the problem.

I don't really hate Man Utd (I dislike a few members of their team, but I do with quite a few other teams). However, I really do hate a lot of their plastic fans. I have some friends who are true Man Utd supporters and do go the games quite often but there are loads of plastic fans who only support them because they "Win fings" but every time they lose or even draw the toys go out of the pram.

They are happy to phone you to slag as soon as your team loses to theirs, but if the opposite happens they sulk and avoid you for weeks.

It's not even those fans that bother me. Atleast you can have banter with them and them sulking shows they actually care. I hate the ones that don't watch football, they just associate themselves with United because it's the done thing to do and they are the only team they actually know of. Then when United win something, they are suddenly the worlds biggest fan and they suddenly have a father from Salford etc etc.
I don't hate United, I just hate that type of person.

Coz they win stuff. Same reason Man Utd hate us.

And a bit of jealousy that Man Utd were media darlings even when Liverpool were winning everything, according to most older Liverpoolf ans.

Rusholme. I think you know me to be a reasonable man. Perhaps I didn't express myself as effectively as I should, for which I genuinely apololgise. I think I made it clear that, with a small number of obvious exceptions (one example given above), I don't hate united fans.

The key point you refer to is well taken. They had had success before and they did rebuild and win the European Cup after, under the guidancs of a true gentleman. They were probably catapulted to world (I emphasise world) fame by the tragedy in '58. However, I take your point as already stated. Your argument was reasoned and not histrionic, for which I commend you. It's sometimes not very easy living in Warrington, particularly so over the last 20 odd years!

The thing I don't like about Man United is the fact that they seem to be every casual's default team. If you ask somebody who doesn't really follow football, who they support they will most likely say 'Man United'. This is true wherever you go in this country.
When we (Arsenal) lost 8-2, the amount of United fans that popped up in my FB feed was staggering. Loads of girls saying, 'hahahah, UNITED 4EVA', when in reality they just read the score on MSN news and have no connection with Manchester. A load of Welsh people (I go to uni here) with statuses such as 'Rooney is the best1!!111' when last night when he played against them they were probably booing and mocking his every touch. It just winds me up how EASY a United fan has it, especially ones around my age group (20-25) because they have never really experienced the lows of football. It's like one of those rich kids that you are envious of because you had to go and get a ****ty weekend job to afford an xbox, but their parents just bought it for them on the day of release.

    ....................................................................

Excellent post, but this could refer to Liverpool during the 70's and 80's.

I have quite a large circle of mates (all born in London and lived in London their entire lives) that all follow football and about 50% support either Liverpool or United. They all live in a city that has more professional football clubs than any other capital city in the world, but they have chosen the glory route and gone against the fundamentals of football support purely to align themselves with the current dominant team. These aren't casual fans, but men that have a passion for football, but are destined to a life of armchair support and derision because they are glory hunters. I don't hate United, but have a respect for them, but I do get very frustrated whenever I meet another Londoner who tells me they support United. After asking them if they go to games (they very rarely do) I always tell them they are a fan and not a supporter, which never goes down well.

I have a mate from Portsmouth who lives in London but is still a season ticket holder at Fratton Park, who upon finding out someone is a southern United/Liverpool fan simply refuses to talk about football with them. He says that he has no respect for them and that they simply don't have a leg to stand on if they want to argue about football.

    Absolutely fair enough <ok>

I don't get why Warrington is predominantly United though, given its geography? I've only ever been there once, to Mr Smiths!

    Then he is a cock.
I was born and live 100 miles from Old Trafford, does he want a football argument with me?
Oh hold on, I forgot you must be born within 20 feet of the stadium.
Tell your mate he is a ****ing **** of the highest order.

    Have a nice day :) /rant over
