The continuing story of the Great Scouse Delusion!

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Sep 7, 2011.

  1. I accidentally stumbled across this thread on the LFC board:-

    http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/84202-Top-Dogs-For-Top-4/page1

Notice how the Scouse delusion has subtly moved on from "this season will be our season" to their pretending to objectively weigh-up the relative merits of their squad with us and the Gooners, but still coming to the firm conclusion that they are better and will finish 4th. One of them has even suggested that they are rivals with Chelsea for 3rd <doh>

If it wasn't so very funny it would be appallingly tragic.

    He's entitled to his opinion.
Not a lot wrong with what the OP has to say.

    This is a classic, though:
Damn, we could've signed Downing, instead! <laugh>

A lot of their fans are quite full of it, but I guess that's what years of the media blowing smoke up their arses does to you.

  3. Worse still, we could have paid £15 million for Carroll...

    Oh, wait!

LFC paid £35 million for him <laugh>

It's the usual clutching at straws nonsense.. Liverpool have a "buzz".. Arsenal have question marks over their physios(! <laugh>).. Spurs don't have the right menatility to win these games(whatever "these games" are)

Now lets quickly delete this thread before we give the 'pool fans another opportunity to turn up on our board :)

Did you not beat them twice last season? But when you have a twat like Phil Thompson in the media leading the delusion its no suprise when Liverpool fans follow his lead.

But they've strengthened since then by signing Henderson whilst we've weakened by selling Crouch and Jenas :-(

I must say I much prefer Arsenal fans on here, despite the fact that I'll never agree with anything you say at of principle..

And while you're hear can one of you take responsibility for the hapless Gooner wum we had the otherday, poor lad was sent into battle totally unarmed :D

Think LFC could be a bit of a surprise package this season, don't see the opinions of those lot being that far out of whack to be honest. They seem to have a few of the Spurs boys cards marked on here as well.

Without doubt the Mickey Mousers are the most deluded fans in English football (even more so than The Shammers).

With the majority of them glory supporters, it is hardly surprising that their lack of world class performers and success has them searching for the slightest ray of hope to cling on to..... and their start to the season along with Suarez is just that.

They are even saying that Suarez is a top 5 striker in the world....... er no, if Suarez was that good he wouldnt be playing for Liverpool.

    Total and utter delusionalists.

I tried to give a balanced view on each team, I wasn't saying Liverpool are guranteed to get 4th. I think it will be very tight with only a few points seperating them at the end of the season

I dont think I really mentioned anything to extremely unrealistic, I think alot of people jump on the bandwagon to slag off our signings without actually seeing them play for Liverpool, each new player looks to have settled well and have each played well for us

It's only 3 games in to the season and there's no point in rushing to rash conclusions.. I think we'll have a better idea of how these teams will do 10-15 games in

As I said earlier, not a lot to complain about in the OP's comments.
I've said before that your signings are all improvements on what you had (bar possibly Adam for Mereiles) and you've shifted a number of unneeded players.
I don't think that many of your new players would make it into the sides around you, though.

A lot will be down to how each club deals with their European schedule.
Arsenal could end up with too many important games in a short period of time, for example.
Hopefully Spurs will use the Europa League and domestic cups as a way to keep squad players fit and happy, whilst still managing to progress.

When everyone's fit we can name a first XI of Friedel; Corluka, King, Gallas, Assou-Ekotto; Lennon, Sandro, Modric, Bale; van der Vaart; Adebayor.
That'd still leave Gomes; Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Rose; Parker, Huddlestone; Pienaar, Kranjcar, Dos Santos; Defoe for the cups and players like Cudicini, Bassong, Livermore, Townsend and Pavlyuchenko spare.
We need to get a number of players back from injury and up to full fitness, though.

Spurs have a lot of depth and will be able to rotate key players for Europe and cup games. Despite bad starts against 2 of the best teams in the league, there is no reason why they wont challenge and indeed finish fourth or higher, the same case can be said for Liverpool and Arsenal. Although Liverpool arn't in Europe, it looks like Dalglish will take the domestic cups very seriously, he fielded a strong 11 against Exeter so there wont be as much rest as usual in cup games for the "Bigger" players. It is very exciting

We don't appear to have any defenders in the youth system though, Ensil.
Obviously Caulker is a massive exception to that and Smith is doing well now too, but the use of players like Townsend, Nicholson and Fredericks at the back recently is worrying.

Is there some rule that Alnwick has to concede a ton of goals every game, by the way?

Very true and it's very sensible to take the cups seriously.
As Mourinho once said, winning is a habit.
Take whatever silverware is available and build on it, using the experience and confidence to push on.

  18. To be fair to the OP of that article, he did attempt to give a balanced view, so it's not him that I am having a dig at.

But it's the usual thing with threads on the LFC board - someone expresses a balanced view, and, like a demented version of Chinese Whispers, by the time you get to the end of the thread some dickhead has them winning the World Cup <laugh>

I'm sure he's thinking, if conceding and still being feted works for BF, then it works for me too!

Do you miss any opportunity to continue your ridiculous campaign against Friedel? <doh>
