I’m not sure what you’re trying to prove anymore. Do you see the likes of Mo Farah as fitter athletes than Usain Bolt, for example? Athletes come in all shapes and sizes. Most will train intensely with strength, callisthenics, weight training, plyometrics, sprint, HIIT. Forest Gump is not the only fit person mate.
It's fitness mate (something i barely take care of, but should} The 2 you metioned, were runners. Same as @PESKIE with his swimming and cycling. I don't get the gym lark, not when you are living a life on supplement thats all.
Yeah I don't swim 18 miles mate 1/2 mile every other day, sometimes daily if I get time. Bike is probably 2 hours 10-12 miles off road with some intense climbs and tricky technical sections (rocks, tree roots, drop offs) Surf is 2 hours approx and that's the biggest work out especially if it's big (not like that pic the other day) as you are forced to paddle hard and fast to get out of the way of tonnes of water landing on your head, getting held down underwater during wipeouts and taking a general beating, all in the cold. There's no rest periods when you want them, you have to learn to hit the wall, and then find a way to keep on going. You probably know about this from your time in the marines.
Bolt is a sprinter, he conditions himself by training with high intensity which will include a great diet including supplements, and plenty of time in the gym. He is quite possibly the greatest athlete of all time. please log in to view this image Your body by the way does not know the difference between a gym and a workplace, an 18kg dumb bell and an 18kg box.
Usain Bolt never ran long distance in training. He’s a sprinter. Would you sprint around if you were training for a marathon?
Did this tonight, after a decent weight session. The premise is, warm up for ten minutes or so steady state then jump off the treadmill and add 1% on the incline and do 30 seconds, then off for 30 secs and add another % and then so on and so forth until the final 30 seconds is at 15% incline. All at the same pace. I only managed up to and including 13%, was completely ****ed. Less boring than a long 'jog'.
Good run that. Been doing outdoor running during darkest months (December and January) to make sure I get some natural daylight and core work in park, three days a week, and staying out of gym. Now that days are starting to get longer and I can cycle to work in daylight, gonna start going back to gym and do some sprints and conditioning.
Did my best run of the new year last night, 3.8 miles in 40 minutes. It was packed in there last night so there is a meant to be a limit of 40 mins on the treadmills etc. I'm aiming for an hour on the treadmill but taking it outdoors once a week again. I'm still going but no one else seems bothered so I haven't posted!! Last couple of weeks I've only been able to fit in twice a week, should be able to do three this week and from here on. Have done a run with a 'push' session one day and a run with a 'pull' session on the other so far. Third day will probably be run with added deadlifts and squats etc. That's if work or something doesn't kybosh it. When I do a full week away I should go every night (four evenings) but I can never do that.
Been swimming every other day. But been fighting off a chest infection, which then came back with a vengeance. So basically been ill through all of January. Will get back on it properly as soon as this mank clears up.
I've had birthdays and midweek football to contend with, and a trip up to Manchester every other weekend. Nothing of that ilk through to April, bar the weekends when I don't 'train' anyway, so should start to improve. Well, got a ski trip in two weeks but that's hardly sit back and relax material, it's full on all day. We're supposed to be a local 10k to raise some funds for our football club, that's the aim and I really should piss that by September. May do a half next year. Might not!
I'm back on it after doing basically nothing for the past 5 months! Swimming last night, diet on. Couple of weddings this year I need to get ready for.
