You don’t think anyone in parliament is capable of actually engineering anything pertaining to a plan OLOF. True that not many wanted to leave... including several of the chancers who led the leave campaign for a bit of self publicity... but i think stumbled into it through incompetence is more likely.

Barring something extraordinary happening today then the government will win the no confidence vote and then the real politics begins. Everybody has had the freedom to make their protest vote on Theresa May’s deal. So can now start to make the grubby compromises. We can take no deal off the table as parliament isn’t going to allow that to happen. The only way that could have possibly happened is if an arch Brexiteer was in charge and ran the clock down but as the geniuses at ERG shot their load by calling the no confidence vote in Theresa May too early that’s not going to happen (and even then parliament would have still had the numbers to probably take that off the table). I would expect an extension of Article 50 to be requested by the UK and accepted by the EU before no deal kicks in by default. By the same reckoning we can also take withdrawing Article 50 unconditionally off the table. She could still go if enough senior cabinet ministers sat her down and said it’s time to go but everyone knew the defeat was coming and her going is not going to change the numbers or the circumstances (and not many who would have a chance of getting th job would actually want it in these circumstances) so it’s not a Neville Chamberlain for gods sake go moment yet. The parties could officially work together to find a version of her plan that works but I think this is difficult for both sides. There are Tories in the cabinet that are adamantly opposed to bringing Labour in and Labour are going to be very wary of working with her - frankly this is a mess she’s got herself into why should they come along and help her get out of it and get tainted by association - they did that in the Scottish referendum and nearly got wiped out in the next election in Scotland. So then I think we get to the more likely options; She could go the house with a range of proposals from a harsher to a softer Brexit and see if any have a chance of commanding a majority - if something can be found (and it’s more likely to be a Norway style deal rather than a Canada style deal) then it may stand chance of being negotiated and accepted and getting through (but this still has many issues not least that Norway don’t want such a deal and that arch brexiteers will be so adamantly opposed that Labour may not still support it as it gives them a chance to bring down the government) Theresa May goes back to the EU to renegotiate and comes back with some small concessions (sold obviously by both sides as large concessions...) This then goes to a vote again but this time with the real pressure of the clock ticking and having had the luxury of lodging their protest votes and opposition may begin to crumble. Up to now people are voting because when Theresa May says there’s a chance of no deal or no brexit the two sides are hearing not the threat but the chance of either no deal or no brexit. This would need a two pronged attack to have a chance of success. If no deal is off the table then it’s appealing to the brexiteers that there really is a chance of No Brexit or 2nd Referendum, so do you want to accept imperfectly leaving the EU now with the chance that it could change later down the line (something that lets face it they would have gladly accepted 5 years ago) or do you want to risk no brexit/2nd ref/Corbyn government. The DUP are more likely immovable so you would have to work on getting centrist Labour members to also change their vote appealing to this is not perfect but doesn’t damage Britain as much and respects the vote and do you really want a Corbyn government anyway and you might as well vote as you’ll probably get deselected anyway.... However if Theresa May did get such a vote through then you get the chance that if it had really pissed off the DUP then a vote of No Confidence might get through - the vote squeezes through and then Labour call a No confidence vote and Labour rebels fall back in line and the government is defeated and let the general election fun and games begin. The other option is that Theresa May renegiotates a deal brings it back to parliament a lot of people fall in line but a combination of purist Brexiteers and Labour centrists not crossing over means the renegiotated deal still fails to get the votes to pass and then parliament turns round to the voters and says we can’t solve this so it’s down to you again - do you really want to do it? And we’re into 2nd ref territory - but this is still very difficult as need legislation to pass/ thee wording of the question would be very difficult etc. Based on above I suspect the most likely is that some form of renegiotaed deals gets passed probably one that can appeal to enough centrist Labour MP’s... But unlikely the tenner I stuck on Leeds to go up as ****ing champions when they were 20-1 I’m not going to be betting on this one..
And wading through the swathes of gammon over the last few pages a couple of points: The EU is not unelected. A lot of people who voted for Brexit did not do so expecting to be poorer nor were they told they would be poorer. You may be prepared to take a financial hit for soverignity but they wouldn’t and nor were they told they would have to. Go to the people with a vote which is you will be poorer but you will have more sovereignty and see how you get on? You voted to take back control. The MPs you’re attacking is what taking back control means. We have a parliamentary democracy and this is what it looks like and how it works. They do not need us more than we need them. It is not that black and white.
