What if she herself out of the blue calls out a general election ? Suddenly Parliament cannot sit and article 50 gets implemented by default. Unlikely but not impossible.

Yes but the context of all "deals" being offered as alternatives to May's are being talked of as trade deals. This fundamentally shows how stupid this is.

The reality is the withdrawal deal = pay EU off whats owed them on projects etc) Agree what leaving looks like and where day 1 starts.

The problem with the day 1 in this deal is that it effectively bounds what the future should look like as it sets out the back stop arrangement as the worst case scenario which "nobody wants" but the reality is to avoid it the UK must come closer to the EU not further away and that is what the brexiteers hate. In effect its a customs union.

The brexiteers want to move further away form all EU laws and regulations, count on their twelve toes like their forefathers did, deal in pound and ounces, have bendy bananas, feed the great unwashed with GM soya form the US as a gruel mixed with angel dusted beef form wherever.

Anything of course bar have the same laws as those horrid (insert whichever racist slur for European countries you like)

I've heard city of london guys laughing at the very thought of people leaving to go to frankfurt... that piddly Little 750,000 population village... Of paris.. .the very thought of having to deal with the french on anything (RHC lite attitdue)

Meanwhile a steady trickle of jobs leaves the UK while investments have all benn delayed for 2 years and the wait and see approach is coming to an end for many firms.

I've no idea about this sties legitimacy but its interesting just for kicks https://www.statista.com/chart/16377/no-deal-brexit-job-losses/

She can't i think as a withdrawal act must be passed. and eu pust ratify.

If she loses her option might be to call election.

Many on the other side would like her to... i dont think corbyn does though.

this is kind of **** that gets me...........

"Michael Gove has defended the controversial Brexit backstop - the insurance arrangement designed to avoid a hard border if a trade deal is delayed.

He told the Today programme: "I think the whole point about the backstop is that it's deeply uncomfortable for the EU.

"If it is a trap for anyone, it's a trap for the EU. Why? Because the European Union said at the very beginning of this process that there would be no cherry-picking, the four freedoms of the single market were indivisible.

"But we have picked a whole bowl of glistening cherries, we have free access to the European market with no tariffs and no quotas but at the same time we say that European citizens have no freedom of movement.

"We don't pay a penny for that access, if we are worried about money after we leave and when we are in the backstop, and at the same time we can say to European nations, 'Do you know what? Access to our territorial waters for fishing, access to our exclusive economic zone, forget about it'.

"We are in a stronger position in the backstop."

    ...............

If this was this good why didn't Gove say this before christmas and show how great this backstop is!!!

The Speaker has provisionally selected four amendments.

Amendment A (Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's amendment) which rejects the deal because it fails to provide a permanent customs union and "strong single market deal", as set out in Labour's "six tests", rejects leaving with no deal and resolves to "pursue every option" that prevents either no deal or leaving on the basis of the current deal.

I'm going to presume this won't pass. no tory is going to vote to reject on basis on no permanent customs union.

Amendment K (SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford's amendment) which declines to approve Theresa May's Brexit deal "in line with the views of the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Assembly that they would be damaging for Scotland, Wales and the nations and regions of the UK as a whole", and calls for the UK's departure from the EU to be delayed until another withdrawal deal is agreed.

Again i presume this won't carry.

Amendment B (Tory MP Sir Edward Leigh) which makes clear the Northern Ireland backstop is temporary and should remain temporary and calls for assurance that, if the backstop doesn't end by the close of 2021, this will be treated as a fundamental change of circumstances and would terminate the Withdrawal Treaty on 1 January 2022.

This seems to be Thersea May's stalking horse. It might carry or not. I 've no clue but it is not the deal as agreed and would end up failing in eu? I presume we are out and this 2022 dealine is in effect new trade deal or no deal then....

Amendment F (Tory MP John Baron's amendment) gives the UK the right to terminate the Northern Ireland backstop without the agreement of the EU.

This one seems hard brexiteer territory and will simply end up being rejected by EU.

The Speaker says if the Corbyn amendment is agreed he will then move to the original question; but if it is not he will then move onto the Blackford amendment.
If the Blackford amendment isn’t approved he will then move on to the Leigh amendment and if that is not approved he will then move on to the Baron amendment.
If any of the four amendments are approved by the Commons the Speaker will then immediately move to a vote on the original motion.

I seems to me then that this is set up to get to the third one which seems the least unpalatable to EU i suppose.

If any one of these passes I suppose it would be a surprise?

would the tories have enough discipline to vote all of these down and then turn round and kill the actual withdrawal bill?

Word is that these amendments are now supposedly all obviously not going to pass as they didn't select the contentious one. main vote could be before 9pm.

    Again i want to repeat

at no time in any part of debate until the BBC 4 radio show today has gove backed this deal like this

He said with this deal "we've picked a whole bowl of glistening cherries", despite the fact the EU had said at the beginning of negotiations that there would be no "cherry picking"

IMO he's let the thing fall on basis may goes and he gets job.

I was actually joking around... Although they certainly haven't been anywhere near as accomodating as they could. I think certain rulers want to punish the UK for leaving.

as in roll over and stick their legs in the air?

    it's pure business.

the same way the USA dictates terms to Mexico and Canada on each border.

there's 500million people in eu after this and 60mil in UK.

us is 300mil and Canada 35mil odd.. very similar levels.

the only thing the UK has that's powerful is London financial services.... and they've threatened that by creating brexit.

The Leigh on is the only one that’ll likely pass, but it might as well be asking for powdered Unicorn horn, as it won’t be accepted by the EU.

Deal defeated 432 to 202 so a huge rejection by 230 votes.
