All Time WORST Spurs XI

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Sep 7, 2011.

  1. I confess that I have stolen this idea off Lazarus20000 (posting on the Gooners' board), who has suggested an article naming an Arsenal all-time worst team.

At the risk of creating great controversy, here's my Spurs worst XI:-

    ----------------------Mark Kendall----------------------

    David Kerslake----Terry Fenwick----Jason Cundy----Ben Thatcher

    Andy Sinton-------Jason Dozzel-------Nicola Berti-------Acimovic

    ------------Steffen Iversen--------Helder Postiga------------

Wouldn't put Iversen in there. Especially as the likes of Raziak and Rebrov played for us. I'd also have Gilberto in at either LB or LM... Jeez that guy sucked!

  3. See, I can't rate Rebrov as one or our all-time worst strikers. I know it's the "done thing" for fans to get on his case, but the fact is, in my mind, that he was never given the chance, plus he had a pretty bad team around him. I have absolutely no doubts that if he was playing in today's team he'd do a lot better.

Iverson, on the other, was given every chance, and he didn't do anywhere near as well as he should have.

I'll agree with you, however, that Raziak was bad. So bad, in fact, that I had forgotten about him!

Yeah I can see the point about Rebrov.

Poor old Raziak... He really was utter tripe weren't he.

  6. @ Spurs or Sex...

Yes, Raziak was REALLY bad. On reflection, I think I'd put him in ahead of Iverson, in my all-time worst XI.

The thing is, there are a lot of players who we have been greatly let down by, because the price-tag and/or their rep was never matched by their performances. I'd put the likes of Rebrov, Armstrong, Chris Perry, Gordon Durie, among others, in that category. They may not have performed consistently well for us, but you couldn't, hand on heart, claim that they were the worst ever players to pull on the lilly-white shirt.

Definitely need Raziak and Gilberto in there. Does anyone remember David(?) Jenkins. He came from Arsenal as a swap for Jimmy Robertson I think. Jenkins was a seriously rubbish winger. I remember him getting the ball, unmarked, about 5 yards inside the touchline just in his own half, and running straight off the pitch with it with no-one anyway near him.

so rebrov's poor form was dues he had around him?

do you not think the other players you have mentioned had a poor team around them too?

  10. Fair point.

But, equally, do you truly believe that a player who still remains his nation's highest ever goal-scorer is genuinely deserving of the tag "worst ever striker"? He wasn't given a chance with us, and there have been many other strikers who were given a chance and simply failed to make the grade. Rebrov came with massive expectations on his shoulders, and I think he needed someone like Harry to man-manage him to enable him to deliver those expectations; but in the end he was as let down by the club as we were let down by the player.

Would include Vega for Fenwick. Cundy wasn't that bad, a journeyman sure, but tried hard in his time. Probably put Lacey in with Vega, had all the attributes, but still managed to be ****e

  12. I thought long and hard about Vega. Trouble for me is, that I did actually watch him play a couple of half-decent games. Yes, he was bad, but I have watched far worse than him.

Lacey is another one I'd forgotten about. And, yes, he was dire.

Rebrov had scored 26 goals in 42 matches in the CL and qualifiers in his last three seasons with Kiev. If he didn't play well for us it suggests something other than lack of ability was the cause!

I was saying this a decade ago. Graham played the entirely wrong game for him and was surprised he didn't thrive, whilst Hoddle froze him out when not inflicting his famed man managment skills upon him.

We're spoilt for choice at left back - Gilberto, Tramezzani, Thatcher, Edinburgh...

I can't believe no one has named and shamed Gary Doherty. He is without question one of our worst ever defenders (and an even worse utility striker) I remember one game about 8-9 years ago when Pleat was in charge he scored i think 2 own goals, gave away a penalty and missed an absolute sitter. I forget who it was against but i do remember laughing through my tears.

  19. Yep, that's the bloke.

On paper, he should have been the new Jimmy Greaves, but he turned out to be complete and utter pants!
