Are spurs issues Utd's problem? The fact is spurs were meant to tactically spank utd and run them off park. Sure a test like conceding a goal early ala LFC v arsenal the numbers say cheslea have played most games v non top 6 teams and are only 6 points away. Psurs are only 7. They have caught arsenal. The next 4 games should be 100% wins every single one. LFC need to win the same type of games. I think LFC will travel with 5 wins form 5 and utd will host with 10 wins from 10
you can be positioned perfectly and still be beaten. whats a perfect position for a keeper? IF the ball goes to the corner is it where he was in the middle or is it right in front of ball. one could argue that all day long. the fact is most shots were right at him and he batted them away somehow. some days those drop to another forward and go in. Some days the shots better. some days its not harry kane taking ball off top free kick takers and effective back passing it. etc etc. De gea did everything he needed to do. But the spurs forwards, especially kane and llorente should be kicking themselves. IF they are not they are not top strikers. Its too easy just give credit to keeper. Look at Aguero's shot V us. Allison is in perfect position. He gets his hand up. Its pure luck if he gets anything on that shot. he didn't so we lose. Is that no credit for striker for hitting it hard enough and high enough he takes keepers body and legs out of it and gives himself a chance?
Or you could argue that the shots were too cleanly struck. Out of 11 one could have been slightly mishit or taken a slight deflection and trip the GK. Our winning goals against them didn't go straight and were deflections. Thank goodness
I wouldn't call half the efforts kane made too cleanly struck. clearly utd have learned to just dive out of the way of the ball and let **** players like kane hit them. I recall one in middle of 6 yard box that kane scuffed. One straight legged left foot hoof off target. A back pass of a free de gea show boated on....
Take your word for it everyone. Never watched the game. Bad enough watching that shower when they play us ffs. Not going to voluntary
Klopp's defensive record at Reds is much better than you thought So says Andrew Beasley. He writes: Today marks one year since Liverpool beat Manchester City 4-3, in one of the most entertaining games the Premier League saw in 2017/18. Saturday’s one goal win over Brighton might not have been anywhere near as dramatic or high octane, but it was arguably more important, and illustrated nicely how the team has developed and progressed in the last 12 months. The result on the south coast was Liverpool’s fifth 1-0 win of the season in all competitions, and fourth in the league. The Reds have only had that score line more times in four of the previous 26 Premier League campaigns. They are unlikely to match the ten 1-0 victories which Rafa Benitez’s side notched up in 2005/06, but the current crop are just as defensively strong and will always have a chance to take the points with the talent they have up top.
Mane decision was my biggest regret admits Klopp Jurgen Klopp has revealed that one of the biggest mistakes of his managerial career was not signing Sadio Mane when he had the chance at Borussia Dortmund. It was in 2014 when Klopp had the chance to bring Mane to the Westfalenstadion. He had been tracking the winger, who at the time played for Red Bull Salzburg, since the 2012 Summer Olympics but despite the face-to-face talks decided not to pursue the deal. He said: “I have made a few mistakes in my life and one of my biggest mistakes ever was not taking Sadio when I was at Dortmund. “We were together in an office and I spoke to him. “Afterwards I wasn’t sure but that was really my fault! “He’s an outstanding boy and life gave me a second chance to work with him and hopefully we can both use it.”
That's in fairness a hail mary effort. Its pure luck it stayed out in the end. he's done all he could. de gea's done well but even pickford would save those Theres not one that made me go wow look at that. It was just the number of saves thats got people talking.
Obviously mane signing was all down to edwards just like all deals that klopp had clearly made his no 1 targets. If you look down the list of signings the only man thats been a success thats not a clear klopp i want him call is Robertson. Credit appropriately given to the scouts there Klopps spoken about severla players about how he scouted for years. Mane is one Salah is another. VVD was clearly klopps man. The transfer committee said no to him form celtic. Keita Ox Alisson even windy The only other i wonder about is fabinho... doesn't seme the klopp type.
The big test will come if Ollie (or whoever gets the permanent job) actually tries to impose his will on some of them. Will they sulk again or will he be able to manage them better than Mourinho did?
The number of saves he makes with his feet is phenomenal, however you have to say that if he can reach the ball with his feet it can't be that far away from him. His initial positioning is good, but better finishing should eventually get through. Like the rest of his team, he's suddenly started to come good again since José has gone - makes you wonder what he's been doing all season.
Big nev was a great keeper at using his feet too, why try to get a hand to push it away when you can react late and use your feet? Shows great technique IMO and if something takes a deflection on its way allows for more reaction/flexibility
So is De gea back to his best after the 32 conceded or is that Mourinho's fault? He is a great keeper but has been average up until yesterday some fans are going overboard with his volume of saves. @moreinjuredthanowen I also hold the view they may be in 4th place unless chelsea manage to pull off some good results by the time we meet them.
True, but you don't have anywhere near the reach with your feet as when you dive with outstretched arms. de Gea can take all the credit if he comes out to the striker and makes himself big - positioning is everything under those circumstances. However, if he's on his line when a quick shot comes in he's just lucky if he can get there with his feet - it's not really a great strike. Nev was so ****ing big any shot was likely to hit some bit of him.
I think you are right there. Its fine now as theres nothing to lose, nobody is going anywhere and they've a cup or two to play for plus its win or bust in league and they are being let play Put a preseason into them and the guys who've not played like sanchez, lukaku etc start looking millstones and can start whining. Right now Solksjaer as well as picked more or less the same team in all games too De Gea young/valencia Jones Lindeloff Shaw Matic herrera Pogba lingard/mata Rashford Martial in 6 games he used dalot once and i think he got injured Bailly once and he got sent off Fred once as well. IMO the guy'd gone and picked his 11 and he's largely sticking by it. the same old issue exist but the games they've had mask them. They've had 3 clean sheets in a row now (spurs, reading newcastle) so they will now claim the defence is fixed though. IMO the success at utd will be not down to solskjaer if he's appointed but down to how stupid woodward is from here on in. Utd MUSt buy players for their coach and they must clear the dead wood that just don't suit the style. When the CL starts back up theres a whole other level of test with 2 games a week coming. pick 11 men and let them at it and get 6 wins in a row great... keep doing that and they will blow out.... he's got to have 15 or 16 players really up for it form here to end of season... and then as you say can he impose his will on them.
IMO de gea has made some very poor errors. He could simply be actually trying more now... it could be a higher utd line helping him... he's dropped some right clangers I'm glad someone is seeing through ther usual bias about what utd is coming. This year its all about city for us. But utd will power up that table for the minor placings.
The problem is that no matter how talented players are, if they won't do what they're sodding told to do then they're going to fall out with their manager. A wise manager will only go for players he knows will listen to and learn from him, not those who already think they know it all. We've all seen Klopp give short shrift to anyone who didn't toe the line, and that keeps the team together. Fergie ****ed off anyone who defied him. Mourinho lacks authority and I imagine just looks like an angry child in the dressing room.
