Mine are- Funny - Bernard Manning Jim Davidson Not funny - Billy Connolly (worse than toothache) Michael McIntyre I defy anyone to watch Bernard Manning’s Northern club stand up routines on You Tube, and not p1ss themselves with laughter. I am a regular devotee
Can’t stand Manning. He was a dinosaur and not a nice man. Billy Connolly is one of the best Comedians I have seen. Peter Kay always makes me laugh.
Manning was not a nice man ? He raised millions for charity including our Armed Forces. Completely wrong.
Jack Dee is about as miserable and dour as @Clb74 so he gets a black mark. The late Bob Monkhouse was an absolute hoot.
The funniest men ever were Laurel and Hardy, I'll be going to see the film.Timeless humour. Frankie Boyle is the funniest of today's mostly unfunny comedians. Billy Connelly and Bernard Manning have both been successful through being funny in different ways. Whether you like them personally is a different matter. Humour has changed at every level. Joke-telling at work or in the pub has died out, even Irish are not allowed to tell Irish jokes now, and Jewish comedians like Jackie Mason would have a hard time now. No-one could tell Jewish jokes like he could.
Richard Pryor must go down as the greatest stand-up comedian of all time. He knew how to make (and take) a joke. Jeff Green and Jack Dee are funny guys, the early Lee Evans shows are worth a watch, and Victoria Wood always brings about a chuckle. Laurel and Hardy are timeless. Utter genius.
Funny: Tommy Cooper Spike Milligan Kenny Everett Peter Cook Eric Morecambe Ronnie Barker Were funny long ago but not anymore: John Cleese Billy Connolly Alexei Sayle Not Funny (ever) Lenny Henry Dawn French (to be continued...)
Tommy Cooper was at a ceremony to receive a comedy award, and when he stood up to speak the place erupted in fits of uncontrollable laughter. The laughter subsidised after about five minutes, and he said "I haven't even said anything yet!". That set the place off for another 5 minutes.
I loved that about Tommy Cooper. He could walk onto a stage and look at the audience, and just the expression on his face would have them laughing for minutes at a time. A great man.
