DH That is the level. To win the league is one more step. We are not far off. Spurs are in the top ten clubs in the world we are not going to fall off. I understand your anxiety but I feel we have done the difficult bit by getting to be in the top 2 3 or 4. It's not many years ago our peers were Aston Villa, Everton and Newcastle. That's where we were of course there is a risk of dropping back but with the present management that risk is unlikely. Levy's weakness was football and picking managers but he has learnt and got better at it.. I suspect you will enjoy top level football at Spurs for many years to come. Pochettino "I want to stay here for 20 years" I hope so.
I may have missed something but where's the money coming from to compete with Citeh...or United....or even Liverpool? We owe up to £637m. Now, we may or may not be able to do something about that, by taking a partner or a rights issue....but right now, we don't have the money to go toe to toe with clubs that have larger incomes and no debt. I want to win the league as much as anyone but until the club's long-term finances are sorted and the stadium, NFL, concerts, sponsorship issues are resolved, getting upset about our finances may be admirable but is pointless. We are where we are, at least we're going forwards....
Pretty sure the official line from the club this past summer was we tried to sign players, money was there but we didn't go in for anyone as the players we wanted weren't available or we simply couldn't get them
Try and keep up. I didn't say we couldn't sign players but we're not going to be able to compete on wages or transfer fees for de Ligt or de Jong or similar, if Citeh or United or Barcelona come in for them. We've been muscled out of numerous deals. We wanted Martial but were blown out of the water by United, the same with Mane and Wijnaldum and Liverpool, Batshuayi and Willian at Chelsea. I'm sure that there are plenty of others. Our problem now is finding players good enough for our squad that we can afford. Everton and Fulham have spent money. Spending money's easy. Buying really good players on a budget?......Hmmmmmm.
That and we needed to shift some non-HG players, which begs the question why we (at the very least) didn't let GKN leave when there was reported interest from Saint-Etienne
I truly hope you're right, Spurf. But I can't help but fear that another season of "just" top four won't be enough, for us fans it's good but for some of our players I don't think it will be, to replace the quality we could potentially be losing with similar quality is going to be nigh on impossible for a club like us. We won't sign a better CB than Toby (although Big Dave may in time become as good) and if Eriksen goes... I don't even want to think of that actually.
You're not getting a slap in the face for the way Levy barters...we can't even out muscle Villa for their player.
I haven' said we can compete with City, Utd or Pool, or any of the other big six in fact... I've already stated a few posts back how I felt the signing of Grealish could've massively benefited us and we all know we had the money for that deal as we ended up finally offering Villa's asking price but by the time we done so, it was too late as they were tired of being messed around.
Before we had Eriksen we lost Modric and Bale, two stella players, we have a better team than when they were here. Players are like buses, or in your case women, they always pop up when you least expect them.
So sorry Brian for you and the fans on your regular nightmare trip to and fro to Wembley.Yet again we screw up and it's another PL championship we give away. I think if we get knocked out of all our cups in the coming games,we need to start selling and waving goodbye to our manager. What is it with our team that just dies when we think we are going to achieve something. Now,instead of a comfortable place in the top 4.....it's going to be a battle to the end. Can't really blame Wembley. We weren't playing there when we "gave" Leicester their championship......we've had good players and very good results, but when it comes to the crunch.....something is missing. Perhaps we need to pray more.....or should I say "prey more!?"
I think it's massively naive to think we can just get by and replace Eriksen. We struggled horrendously when Bale left. When Modric left we got lucky in that Bale stepped up a level and Dembele proved an astute signing at £15m. We also weren't in the Champions League when either player left, Eriksen is the calibre of player that make a club an EL side or a CL side.
Wasn't that after Levy's usual dragging a deal on its arse? Could have had him before the takeover but the new owners weren't having none of Levy's shysty ways with his wallet. 25 million...he would have been better than the traffic cone we will need to replace our crocks for the next set of fixtures Cannot believe how shamlessly we hav run Sissoko to the ground till he blew a gasket.
Teams like Barca want Eriksen...yet we think he's just another bus...another one will come along. Ooook
