Or we could offer something pathetic for Grealish and then try and offer £25 million when it's already too late.
Nor was Sissoko until recently. Pochettino has a habit of improving players that he sees potential in.
OK but it also says we respect our squad and think they are good enough. We are always at risk of losing top top players because there are clubs like United , Real Madrid and Barca with more clout than us but we have more clout than 90% of teams ourselves so we can't expect sympathy. The job Levy has done IMO opinion is better than any chairman in our entire history under extreme financial conditions. They will build a stautue to him one day, mark my words.
I’m sure the media will be fawning over United, but they got their goal from a mistake while we were reorganising after a substitution, got outplayed in the second half by a team without an enforcer in the midfield and had their goalkeeper to thank for a clean sheet. They are obviously better than under Mourinho, but I still feel that we will finish above them. They will catch the Goons and possibly the Chavs
Have to disagree here. Taking a simplistic view that injuries are down to chance or luck is pure nonsense. Most injuries such as tears or strains like Sissoko’s occur after over exersion, hyper extension, dehydration and mental and physical stress. No one was near him when he pulled up and so many of us saw this coming weeks ago. He played so much football that it was only a matter of time. And now his hamstring gave in, in a game that was high pressure, high intensity and asking just too much at a time when his body needed rest. In a later post you mention Murray. There’s another prime example of injury due to over exersion. During the season he won the ATP World Tour Finals and got to world number 1, he played and won a ridiculous run of tournaments leading up to that. He got to the top but the damage was done. That run is now why he’s retiring. Looking back, would he do that again? I seriously doubt it but it’s too late now. He pushed his body too hard and that’s what happens. So is signing players the answer? Yes is it. Why? Because in games where players are tiring and need a rest, they can step in and take the strain. Whether its just 15 minutes or a full 90, those decisions affect an athletes ability to play better and perform at a higher lever over longer periods. I’m in contact with sports coaches every week so I’m not just an armchair commentator saying this. I do know a bit about this stuff.
Terrible news for our U23s: looks like they'll be missing their first choice midfield pairing of Skipp and Marsh because the first team broke all their midfielders
I wouldn't argue with most of what you say except to point what you obviously know that it also depends on the physical make up of the individual and this is where the luck comes in. Sissoko does probably enforce your point because our manager has taken this player to levels that he and us probably though was impossible similar with Murray. Some players on the other hand can play within them selves and therefore do not stress their bodies so much. Whilst agreeing with most of what you say I will still argue that luck plays a large part in it. Transfers is another argument which I have talked about in other posts already.
A lot of us were concerned about Sissoko because of his game, style of play and the demands on him. He tends to sprint from a standing start. That always places extra strain on your achilles, calves and hamstrings. It was sadly only a matter of time until he pulled up.
But I'm sure we are all pleased he reached that extra level. Do you think it could have been prevented with different advice?
Just less minutes in other low pressure games. He’s played an awful lot lately. It a balancing act and I fully appreciate its hard for Poch. But our CM/DM options are wafer thin right now. Was only a matter of time.
We all said the same about Sissoko. Many still feel the same about Winks. While Wanyama and Dembele also aren't at the level seeing as they never play - with Dembele seemingly on the way out. So what would we have had to lose with signing Grealish? Having Grealish as an option is better than having no option at all. He could've been rotated into games to have allowed the other fit CMs a much needed rest. We've all seen how much Sissoko has been ran into the ground and now it could prove costly, clutching his groin doesn't give the best of signals he's going to be fine for the next game, even if I pray he is.
If signings aren't the answer, why are Liverpool top of the league? Before their signings, especially the ones of VVD last January and Alisson in the summer, they were finishing below us. Yet with those two, along with the smart squad addition of Shaqiri, Pool are looking a much better outfit than us and top of the league.
Let me just check in with the lunatic fringe on Twitter ...nope, they say the second he misplaces a pass in his own half they'll all be baying for his contract to be torn up the second he comes off the pitch
