What has caused lack of pride in the Country? Is it the lack of success or our gradual loss of identity since joining the EU ? We almost seem apologetic to be English why ?

Have pride in yourself first and then your loved ones & friends and have respect for others regardless of colour or beliefs.... before any media induced "national pride" which then gets hijacked by politicians or right wing groups who use it to divide people instead of bringing them together.

Nothing wrong with being proud of where you come from, but a bit of common sense about most things these days gets lost.

The only thing i have pride in from this country is our armed forces. When it comes to football,it's just gone mad with the money and fame the top players get and most times when i see them play they seem to lack the pride themselves, think maybe it's just starting to rub off on people.

How are England 4th in the world?

Don't get me wrong, I'll cheer the boys on to win like most other footie fans, but 4th in the world - the Welsh fans were right. "You're 'avin' a laugh."

I travelled away to Bulgaria to watch England play and there was no lack in pride for our country there at all. The 3000 or so travelling fans showed how much they pride their country, it's just a shame that no longer wearing the shirt for your country is the pinnacle of a footballers career, it is instead the amount of money they can earn in a week.

I still feel a lot of pride in my country, and I follow all my national sports teams with interest. I will be cheering the rugby team in the World Cup, and I have just enjoyed the cricket team thrashing India (and Australia) to become the no. 1 test team.

The England football team, however, is a different case. There always was a bit of a conflict between club and country even before the Sky Premier League came along, but now the players wages for their clubs are so ridiculously inflated I don't believe they care enough about the national team. I don't know why this should be, other nationalities playing in the EPL still seem to be able to summon up the energy to put in a decent shift for their country, but not English players. Maybe they're just not good enough, certainly the Champions League Final would suggest there is a bit of a gulf between the "best" English team and the best of Spain, but there must be more to it than that.

Perhaps the England players should be selected from the Championship, not the Premier League?

What is English pride? Is it hating the Scottish? What about joining the EDL? Maybe it's just drinking loads of beer and being overweight. Who cares about the World rankings, they are worked out over the last five years by maths. But it might have something to do with the fact that England have won 26 of Capello's 39 matches.

Well pride in what? I felt very proud of cricket team over the last years. Did I feel proud of then after yet another mid-order collapse at the hands of the Aussies some years ago? No. The pride has to be of the performance or achievement rather than just the wearing of the shirt as a spectator.
The players should certainly feel pride as being selected to play for your country is a major acheivement. Whether they should feel proud of their performance last night, that's another matter.

This country produces the best music and comedy. I love living here and am very proud to be English/British. As for cheering on overpaid underperformers, I find that very difficult. Not a big enough problem to move to Australia tho....

Tbh im proud to be english but not proud of living here atm. The country is becoming more and more for the rich and well off. It's all to exspensive and will carry on getting even more so. Im not proud of our justice system where you can kill some one and get 2 years, then get 10 for fraud. How doe's that make sense?. We should have the death penalty for murderers.

As for the riots and the scum that go round nicking metal of war memorials makes me sick. As another post said only thing im proud of atm is the troops.

I have family past and present in the armed forces, and have the greatest respect for what they do... but also remember they volunteered for it, no one forced them and sadly they are just pawns in the games of politicians and oil companies and to keep the USA happy.

It upsets and annoys me everyday to see young lives wasted on causes that are not what the lads & lasses on the front line think they are fighting for.

I struggle to find "pride" in that.

Yes it can but murder can decemate a entire family, cause untold pain and suffering on those that were close to the murder victim. With fraud most if not all are covered so their is little risk.
Fraud with old people etc yes i get the heavy sentence, but in no way is fraud more of a sin then murder.

This is getting a little heavy. There is definitely problems with the sentences handed out in this country. Putting someone in jail for putting a foam pie in some ones face says it all. They do that on stupid TV programmes all the time. Mind you Noel Edmunds should have been put away for years ago.... for being a dick.

The only national pride I have is for Northern Ireland, as in how far it has come as a nation compared to the dark days of the troubles. The tensions have always seemed pointless to me, hence why I did a lot of cross-community work within my school. It's always interesting hearing what the younger gen have to say about what it's like here, and then it's encouraging when they don't show any signs of sectarian hatred.

As for the rest of the UK, I don't know. The UK as a nation always seems to find itself in some sort of limelight for all the wrong reasons...
