you do know how the 3 strikes work? it can be really minor offences...not things like robbing... i think, i;m not 100% sure
Again, where have I said that (not in any of the posts you quoted earlier, so no need to quote them all again)? I expressed general agreement with the policy of the Home Office Minister, regarding short sentences being largely ineffective, and often counter productive (prisons are brilliant at turning little ****s who are going off the rails, into hardened criminals). Nothing about letting burglars go free. The article you quoted said it was possible that "some burglars and most shoplifters" might avoid goal. That's "burglar", btw, not "house breaker". If you break into a warehouse, that's also burglary.
I thought the 3 strikes were for felony crimes? No idea where the lines meet and what constitutes felony etc. though.
Dunno mate tbh. Their whole justice system seems pretty ****ed over there. They have the harshest sentences, probably the most heavy handed police, and definitely the highest crime rate anywhere in the developed world; so I don't think we should be following them.
I'd be interested to know also how many of those sentenced to 6 months or less for crime were unemployed at the time of their offence. So you are right about community service but i think it should even go a step further than that, in that all men and women should do community service to obtain their benefits (those childless). We would have the cleanest streets in Europe if we put them all out with litter pickers and yellow jackets. Would i do it if i was in their situation, yes i would, it's better for your own morale and self-esteem than sitting around doing fook all.
Yeah, get caught committing a crime in Texas, even a relatively minor one, and expect to be in a world of ****. The same thing in New York might get you a fine or a caution. That said, the police in New York shot an unarmed guy to death in Times Square at 8.00am when I was over there, and it didn't make the evening news.
Good idea, putting house robbers out litter picking, not much potential there for future offending then.
One of my son's friends got arrested and charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, after he pulled a knife in a fight (he didn't use it). He could possibly have got a custodial sentence for that, but instead or ruining a young man's life, the court gave him several hours community service. He learned his lesson and never carried a knife again. So I think it works, as a means of dealing with low level crime. Not sure about making it a condition for receiving benefits; if you did that, you'd have to pay minimum wage imo.
You are missing my point... Unemployment leads to crime, because the youth have fook all else to do. Keep them motivated with work. Come on mate, you're a grafter, you don't have time to think about turning someone's property over the hours you put in - Time you get home, you just want to eat or sleep. Same logic could be applied to criminals.
That could be applied (minimum wage) - crazy idea maybe, but what's the average full-time employees work?...40 hours thereabouts. People could spend 10-20hrs per week community service, the rest of the remaining time looking for work. The savings would come in reduced crime, freeing up prisons, and all the official expenditure that goes behind each criminal case.
I doubt a few hours wandering the streets, not giving a ****, picking up random bits of litter, is gonna change anything
Whatever it is, keep the youth busy, keeps them motivated and out of trouble. Yes, we should be giving them real jobs, but there are plenty of real jobs that are never done, i use litter picking because it's a major problem in this country. It's educational as well, that some kunt has to pick up, because some fooker was too lazy to take their rubbish home.
There you are then. Even if it's not actually serving but just to train them to the best of their ability. Occupied minds are busy minds.
Yep.. We can't recruit enough ****y *****s...So give them something to do...Some may even take to it.
