Howay, I turn over feeling confident of victory over such minnows having got the equaliser... How have we thrown this easy victory away? I hope Rafa lays into them for their overconfidence
All in all we never expected to get anything here but we had a chance here Saying that I've seen better Toon Teams thrashed here before
Can someone explain how we score from a corner in the 40th minute, then when we win two late corners, in the 88th and 93rd minute, we don't even get a decent cross in? I didn't watch much, but what I could see was when we fans say "we want a team that tries", we're talking about Longstaff's version of trying, not Perez, Joselu or whichever other no-mark piece of ****ing turd Rafa loves. We've had this lad in the reserves all season, he's only near the first team because of injury, and he's got ten times the heart and talent of most of the rest. Good effort, really, but fed up of Rafa's approach. Edit: That's a bit strong, Rafa's a very decent human being and a top bloke, and hasn't won so much by luck. I just think he's of a different era and certainly a bad fit for this football club, if for no other reason than he gives the everyday fan too much hope.
Something to take in tonight - the 18 points that Newcastle have now is our lowest tally after 22 games of a top-flight season for 20 years. In that season, 1988-89, we were relegated. We've obviously had two relegation's with BETTER tallies at this stage....
So on the back of a good performance by our up and coming midfielder, scoring a goal and not being destroyed and with chances of getting an equaliser you would prefer to reflect on negative statistics?
From the BBC commentary: "Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle United (Newcastle cornet in the 93rd minute) Short again! When you're a goal behind in the final minute of stoppage time, why wouldn't you put a cross into the box? Awful." What the **** was going through Ritchie's head? I cannot believe I grew up with Beardsley, Lee, Cole, Ferdy, Shearer, Ginola, etc, to have to watch Matt ****ing Ritchie 20 years later.
Another game we expected to lose but we weren't awful today. Stil ldon't understand why we have to sit in a rigid 5-4-1 for 90 mins and not try and get a goal towards the end. Only used 2 subs today - I get there wasn't much on the bench - but ffs at least tweak the tactics and give it a go. Positives: Longstaff looked good - alongside Hayden, so there is hope for the lad. We weren't completely outplayed despite playing our 4th choice and youth graduate CM partnership. Lejeune and Clark back from injury getting through 90 mins. Lacselles looks like he's over his blip in form. My prediction league entry was spot on so silver linings and all that.
