Yes, Leicester ran out of steam and they would have had to score decent strikes or get deflections (would have happened under Hughes!) at the distance they were shooting. Leicester lost their way last 10 minutes.
I really struggled today, had a gin to calm the nerves(I never drink gin), it was a real test. So proud how they stood up to that test. Ralph is special.
Spoke well of us on Sky...said we deserved to win for courage and commitment. Ralph says the players enjoyed the game. Good to hear that though.
Just heard a great stat on FiveLive - Shane Long's last four goals for Saints have been under four different managers. Don't expect any more for a while then.
Question: Is it too early to erect a statue of Ralph outside SMS? (Preferably a really crap one that looks nothing like him, for old time’s sake)
Great performance to win that with 10 men, most of 2nd half. Can’t begin to imagine how Shane Long will feel tonight, having been successful where it really matters. So pleased for him, hope that’s a big monkey off his back. Valery will learn and be ok. Well done all, players, manager and coaching staff and the fans who no doubt will not mind the journey back down the M1 tonight, after, perhaps a rather pensive journey up earlier!!
Must admit to being very critical of Jan Vestergaard, but today he was immense, its amazing what a decent manager can do with team in such a short time, thought we looked really good in the first half with really good movement going forward. Impossible to pick out a MOTM, I'd probably go for Romeu if pushed.
Leicester after the 65th minute also allowed it to turn into a game that suited Vestergaard perfectly. They had us on the ropes, and we kinda baited them into playing crosses...the wingbacks were tucking in to shrink space in the box, but doing a fantastic job of closing down crosses when they inevitably played it out to the free wide man. Meant a lot of contested headers, and that's Vestergaard's specialty.
