It is clear to me and others that our defense is not good enough to gain an automatic promotion place. We have two pacy attacking full backs contributing to our attacking talent, but I have my doubts if they are strong enough as defenders. If we want to get an automatic spot, I think we need to strengthen our defense with at least two experienced players to cover for injured players or be first choice. Problem is that we all know that investing in such players will cause panic with the money men. Hopefully we may get into a play off place by the end of the season which will be more than we expected at the start of the season.
It’s a decent cross and clever movement from Gayle, but nothing extraordinary. Have to say that is Godfrey’s fault imho. He points to Gayle in front of Zimmo and then goes flat-footed, meaning Gayle nips past his nose and ends up, in the context of a fairly safe situation, with acres of space inside the six yard box to toe it away. You can see clearly how late Godfrey reacts to the run. First rule of defending the six yard box - don’t let the striker get in front of you and stay on your front feet. Also, let's remember that the central defenders have not been able to play with each other over a period of time. The kind of understanding that comes from playing game after game in the same back pair is hard to achieve when players are constantly injured.
