Good question,i'd probably say i'd be more interested and hope that they would do well,also if they did get picked it would show england are finally going for players that deserve it and players who would play with passion so i might fall back in love with the national team.
Yeah, they probably would, because we'd have a direct connection again. When Terry Paine was an England player, I felt a tiny bit of extra support, but then that was when I was a kid anyway, so I was very much the England supporter. Mick Channon, and one or two other Saints players kept bringing me back, as well. But, as I mentioned before, when Matty got his long overdue selections, and then was left out, as lesser players were selected over him, that finished it for me. In the last decade, seeing these millionaires stumbling about the pitch, seemingly incapable of matching anything like even their worst form for their clubs, has kept that door pretty much closed.
I can't see it happening but I have always wanted Saints players to do well when representing their country. I also still like to see Walcott and Bale do well. With the current regime though it is unlikely the two mentioned would be selected for England while playing for Saints. Would love to be proved wrong though.
I remember being at St Marys when England played Montengro and it was the first and last time i will ever sit at St Marys and generally be disinterested in the game
Don't give a monkeys about England. Aside from the World Cup last summer, I can't remember when I last watched a full 90 minutes of an England game. You might well have to go back to the Sven era to find a full 90. (Take the past few days for example, I didn't see a single minute of the Wales game yesterday and only bothered with the first 15 minutes vs Bulgaria). Far, far too boring to watch, with far too many over-hyped underachievers (so very much like top level club football). Just like I'd take cricket over football any day of the week, I'd likewise take Saints over England. There's absoloutely no contest.
I'm actually surprised there are so many of us who are making a point of stating not just our obvious preferences, but our absolute total and utter disenchantment with England, and especially the players. That tells one something about what has happened to the game in the last 20 years. Hopeless underachievers or not, it was never like this 20-30 years ago, and I put this down to SKY's money. I've always been convinced they've ultimately been bad for football.
What's up with you lot where's your national pride ? No wonder the country,s in the state it's in ,am in Oz at present and feel more English here ! Plus there passion and pride in there country puts us to shame and they still support Britain,, will always support Saints no matter there status but surly you would want England to win every time they play,,once apon a time it was every players dream to play for there country ,,come on England & Saints
I've always been more Northern Irish than English anyways so does that mean my national pride is unquestioned?
Have the day to day hero worship of star premiership players and then watch them go out and make a pig's ear of anything they touch, and you'll become disenchanted with them. You're safe in Sydney.

The trouble is sometimes i'm asking where the players national pride is,i just don't see it if i ever watch them,also maybe it's a case of not relating to these players,jujst differ from them so much.
Yeh i don't like cricket but i can imagine they show pride in playing for their country,and correct me if i'm wrong but they don't get nowhere near the wages and perks of a top level professional footballer.
Yes, unless they play in the IPL alongside playing for England (which is very rare at present), they are some distance away from the footballer counterparts. (Although they are a lot, lot better off when compared to what they received even just 15 years ago). And if you go down a level, to your typical run of the mill county level players, then they don't actually get paid too much more than your average joe public (there are some county cricketers who do bog-standard jobs, like a builder or a carpenter, during the winter off-season). Some county cricketers have even retired early, and gone and worked in the city.
Supporting Saints has been the same as supporting England over the past 50 years 1 notable success ,the rest of the time eternal hope of another,,have even convinced myself I'm a jinx if I watch the games on TV,,
I would feel more national pride if we had an English manager. I feel great pride in England (and British sportsmen in all sports) doing well but sadly I have seen little evidence of the football team doing well.
Yeh thought as much,bet they look on at footballers and think i'd like a bit of that,it's not as popular as football though,that's the problem.
Funny sentiments that make me never want to watch England again. England is hard work, like watching Jeremy Kyle after a week of sleep deprivation. Every major competition I try and renew hope, but mid way through the group stage it fades like a light being switched off. Saints any day of the week.
The problem for me with supporting the England team is some of the players. How can I support a side with John Terry or Ashley Cole in it (amongst others)? I would hate for them to play for Saints and fortunately it will never happen. Saints first, England cricket second and whoever's playing skates third. COYS
