Ah I get you, thought you were on about his last one , this would be his second pro contract so can be as structured and as long as both parties want. Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
I hope not , he's pants, gets a goal as a striker should but contributes nowt to the team ,like Defoe. Defoe never started anywhere , box strikers = 10 men on the pitch. not just me, all the managers he played under,
I remember Defoe regularly popping up in defence for us, especially at RB, and wondering wtf he was doing there. Even if all he did was goal hang and score more than his fair share that'd be great but he put a shift in. Maja isn't there yet but he's only 20 and he's already got the finishing part nailed down and the rest of his game is coming along rapidly. It won't if he leaves to keep someone's bench warm but that's his call.
The ‘sub’ thing about Defoe is a myth, later in his career, yes. Stats here from the Premier League website West Ham - 74 starts Tottenham (1st spell) - 147 games (32 as sub) Portsmouth - 32 games (2 as sub) Tottenham (2nd spell) - 137 games (47 as sub) Sunderland - 87 games (5 as sub) Around 80% of his games have been starts.
making yourself look a right dickhead here mind General. Defoe was a fantastic player. Great finisher and had some needle about him. Also, as mentioned, put a shift in. Maja is 20! Has goals and has the finishing side down to a tee. He also has a very good touch and good vision. Set up a few this season as well I believe. Good feet. Not sure what your beef is with him tbh
Think he is making the point that so called box strikers ? contribute little other than goals, and to a degree this is true but goals win matches (no pun intended), and lethal finishers are worth their weight in gold to any team, as long as they keep scoring of course. Just wonder how he rates say, Kevin Philips or Brian Clough.
Lack of football nous shown here. Strikers are there to put the ball in the back of the net. Who gives a **** if they can't pass a ball 50 yards or link the play? We've had Bent and Defoe who aren't the most attractive footballers but are cold blooded finishers. What would you rather have?
Valid point badly made I think mate, some teams can more than afford to play a box striker. Those at the bottom end of tables usually can't as they need an extra man in midfield which usually leads to box strikers being isolated on their own as we found with Defoe. But Defoe is top draw, been one of the best finishers in the world. We could have played 14 players and banged them in midfield and we'd still have been ****e. Defoe was utterly clinical for us on limited chances. Without him the embarrassment we'd have suffered would have been unbearable. Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
I've no beef with Maja, I just think he can be anonymous. Better judges than you and me benched Defoe Marcus, even Sam played him out wide not through the middle, box strikers are a luxury. Be interesting to see how Maja does if he moves up a level , I only used Defoe as a box striker comparison, he's different gravy to Maja and was when 20 years old. I'd compare Maja with Vaughan, both score at this level but not in the Championship.
Agreed, and I could have made the point better. Shame it upset some, not you by the way. I don't think Maja is a world beater, we could put him on big money and he could flop in the Championship again. I have a different opinion to some on here, thats what the boards for.I don't call other posters dickheads for there posts I don't agree with. I didn't rate Cattermole and thought Sinclair was an iffy signing given his record and took stick for both as well. Water off a ducks back.
But the very fact that Allardyce played Defoe out wide suggests that he knew that there was more to his game. While no team can afford to carry passengers, a good team should be able to play to its strengths and accommodate a prolific goalscorer even if he offers less elsewhere. At this level, we have a good enough team to accommodate Maja. He's still young enough to develop those other aspects of his game. I've seen enough of him to be confident that that is a possibility for him. Personally, I think our game is more detrimentally affected by the presence of Wyke than by some players having to do a bit extra to make up for some of Maja's failings.
The step up from league one to Championship is ****ing massive, as Vaughan and Grigg found out. Maja is a talent no doubt but to progress he needs to finish out this season and have somebody to help him carry the weight next should we go up. Him jumping up so soon I can only see career suicide Asoro style. As for the Dickhead thing, you must know you're Marmite by now mate. Two types of dickhead, those who know they are one, and those who don't. Be like me and know we you are one, makes life so much easier I find, being a dickhead even becomes endearing to some that way, but you'll still remain Marmite lmao. I have thick skin Bri I know I am.....but does he Enjoy the match, keep 11 men on the pitch and it should tell us where we are at KTF
I certainly agree with that, Maja has done great and he’s got a lot of potential, but he’s far, far from a top player. He could get there, but as you say, no guarantee he will step up. He’s more chance of doing so in a team he knows, as has been said, if he went to Championship now I’d be surprised if he kept the goals flowing for anyone else this season.
