Naw, we aren't. I didn't say all American artists are ****e. That would just be stupid. I said "Most" American rock bands are ****e. I suppose Rock would cover a multitude of sins but when I think of American Rock big hair and spandex come to the fore. Bon Jovi, G&R blah blah blah. Bruce Springsteen and Chuck Berry wouldn't come anywhere near that particular pigeon hole.
If you are looking for a guitar great look no further than the recently deceased Glen Campbell. Geetaaar God. Although he's not so good now he's deed.
Currently trying to get a good deal on 'Plain Spoken: From The Chicago Theatre' (CD + DVD). Jeez another; Ryan Adams to release three albums in 2019.
Trivia Question: David Bowie provided hand claps for which band on their 1979 album New York–London–Paris–Munich?
Would your love of Nigra music stretch to the sublime Huddie 'Leadbelly' Ledbetter? He had a mahoosive influence on American folk and blues music which pre-dated Rock n Roll by a couple of decades. My Bredren Dem bang on about MOBO shyte but it is only ever Hip Hop or R&B, they are blissfully ignorant of any black music prior to James Brown. Darkies what I like; Leadbelly Elmore James Sonny Boy Williamson Muddy Waters Howlin Wolf Bo Diddley Little Richard Chuck Berry BB King I like some 60s Soul music too, Otis Redding being tops but also a bit of Al Green, James Brown and that. Quite like a bit of Northern Soul but most of the bands and acts were so obscure even back when the tracks were released that I couldn't name them. I think that was the point, the more obscure the better for true NS fans. How do you turn a duck into a soul singer? Put it in the oven until its Bill Withers.
Yes, when you think of American Rock. Here's a Wiki entry on "American Rock" which includes all the sub genres, "Rock and Roll" is one. Springsteen and Chuck Berry are both mentioned. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_rock All the artists I've mentioned were part of or led a band, Artists who were strictly "solo" acts have been left off my list.
True, the good bits are very good, but those others albums don't have a weak song on them I think. Whiskeytown - ' strangers almanac?
Thanks for prompt; could not remember where the three Whiskeytown CD's were in my haphazard storage system. Now discovered along with my 'Wallflowrs' CD's. What were your thoughts on '1989'? The only other example of this tribute to another artist I can think of is the live 'Sgt. Pepper' by Cheap Trick.
I loved 1989, thought it was excellent and a return to form after some poor albums , Prisoners is pretty good too, the chap may have his mojo back..
